Please read this..Before I quit heavengames, I’d just like to make this point. In my last thread “My thoughts on the Demo, please read!” we tried to have all arguments on the demo – some people went nuts obviously, because not everything is run with perfection. But anyways, here is what I have to say before I leave:
I understand there are people who love AoE3, I am happy for you, but I am not part of that group. I am part of the group that has had AoE since its first debut, and I have been hooked to it until the demo of AoE3 was released. In other words, I am disappointed with the demo. I doubt that ES will fix this game in one month.
The ransom unit, dead unit, whatever it is – was never in any AoE series, but I accept this. I just think making a new unit similar would’ve been better. In the past AOE franchises HEROS never had special treatment; they only had HP that exceeded that of regular units.
I will not be buying the game unless a new demo is released with AOE style. Now some people will come and ask, what is Style? Style is defined by me what all the AoE series had in common, but which still made them VERY different. For instance the economy, as many agree with me, has been too simplified. The drop off points have been removed, the formations too, and the farms have been ruined and replaced with one huge MILL that holds 10 people.
The UI, which many said will be changed, I hope will be changed in reality. I don’t need to argue much on this because the point of the UI has already been discussed. 98% of this forum probably agrees that the current UI is just not right.
The zoom-in feature is something AOE never had, and this made me extremely happy. It is useless because I doubt anyone will zoom in to see the villagers. Even on my best computer that carries 2 gigs of ddr and a 256 graphic card, the zoom in option is worthless. The graphics are ugly from that point of view, and highly inconvenient.
I respect everyone who likes AND dislikes the game. I may have come across as “ignorant” because I defend my belief with facts I see to hold true. If you don’t, I’m sorry honestly but this is what I see. Many of my friends and colleagues who have played AoC and AoK for a long time agree with me on this 100%. Some people on the forum do too.
As for insulting JohnOConnor, banning him in public and parading it, that is just not professional. He is a good host, and has interesting views that make sense. Putting up a picture and saying “this game is what you want” insults the people who have played AoE since 1997 and have stuck to the franchise until AoE3. We are just disappointed that many of the features that made up AoE were removed and replaced to fit the feel of Empire Earth, Rise of Nations, and so forth.
If you think we are looking for 100% realism, I’ve said it many times: No! We are looking for what AoE was based on. I don’t know who made you guys believe that we want a 3D game that is based on the real world, with real world problems? We never mentioned that. When we say realism, we base it upon what was removed, such as gold, and stone. Even the drop off points which were my favorite part, have now been removed, because someone was lazy to play the game. I don’t see why a decision like this would be made, but whatever.
I am not flaming anyone, I am just reinforcing why this AoE3 does not feel right for me and my friends. Please don’t flame me because you see the world differently than I do. I respect your opinion, and I hope you respect mine. The facts I listed base my firm belief that the AOE soul has also been removed when so many features were deleted.
I appreciate those who actually take the time to look over and read what I mean by style.

No hard feelings – but this just is not AOE for me,
