But that's just combat. Where's the economy? None of the videos feature anything but men, men, and more men. Sure, they run around and look cool, and fight pretty realistically, but there's really not much more to them than that when you get to the core of the game.
In order to keep frame rates up, the units look pretty low poly. But worse than that, there's just about nothing in the whole game except some hills and maybe a few walls. No beautiful eyecandy, realistic forests, rocky cliffs, all the stuff we've enjoyed in AOM and AOEIII.
I'm afraid that if AOEIII had gone uber-formation on us, it would have been a killer to micro both military and economy. You could be fighting the best battle of all time while a small army of 30 men or so are completely taking out all your villages on their own, and you can't respond since you're so busy on the other battle. And if you could have that army of 1000 men, how would you possibly be able to keep that eyecandy? AOEIII, in essence, would turn into another Rome: Total War. Some maybe support this, but personally I think AOEIII should stay closer to an Age game.
