I recently got my Age3 Collector's Edition - and made an incredible discovery! This is on the last page of Art of Empires, the artwork book that comes with the Collector's Edition.

Obviously this might not be true, but imagine if it is! We can have Battlefield Empires and Age of Starcraft!

I could do WWII. That'd be cool. But not modern, no sir.

That looks pretty neat. But I doubt they'd do that. They said themselves didn't they that this was going to be the last Age of (or did they, I vaguely remember them doing so). But one never knows. In addition, I'm not sure a lot of people would like a modern version, I'd expect it to be a flop.

Oprichniks are the best units in AoE3. Why? It's elementary, they're Horse-riding Russian Pirates, nothing beats Horse-riding Russian Pirates.

So they already decided what IV and V would be about?

Cool!

I've never heard/seen anything anywhere from ES saying that they were going to discontinue making the Age series, although a lot of people have been claiming that they have (I've yet to see a link). What I do know is that Ensemble has stated that they were going to branch out into other projects. Currently they're looking for people with MMO experience, so I would speculate that their next game would go the way of the Warcraft series (World of Empires maybe?). I would hope that they don't stop making RTS games altogether (which that picture suggests that they won't) as Ensemble has been my favorite RTS game developer.

Well, a space game by ES would rule. Not sure how they'd handle a WW2 game though.

I could swear I made a post in here...

Anyway, that last guy looks like Master Cheif. Judging from pic 4, I'd say the game would be Vietnam and WWI, WWII era.

MS has registered the domains for ageofempires4.com and ageofempires5.com, but not ageofempires6.com -- sounds like they aim on continuing the Age series.

(A WW1-2 game would be so awesome.... )

When the developers said, 'we're going something different', I would guess that could mean a WW2 game - that's quite different (I don't think they'll go as far as branching out from rts, but you never know). Basicly, I think that page is not really based on any concrete plans, and that it's just a possible idea. Maybe their WW2 game won't be called Age of Empires 4. Actually, I highly doubt they won't call it something different.

What about Napoleon and WWI, are they skipping it?
I am not sure about anything in the future.

By the time they do WWI, and WWII probably 10 years has been gone by. Then they should redo everything again, new graphics, new engine. Hoplites, Romans, Persians, Macedonians; i would buy it.
Right now i am in school, so no way i can buy this game. Crap. I am taking 5 classes and working.
See you guys in December.
Enjoy it!!

Napoleon falls into the Age 3 time period. He is one of the AI's, actually. WWI/WWII might be the same game (different ages.) They were less than 30 years apart (although the tactics and weaponry were vastly different.)

Also, registering domain names isn't really definitive. It takes like $7/yr to do that. I think ES/MS can probably afford it, so that way some cyber-squatter can't steal their domain name before they have a chance to get it.

I haven't been to the future es games forum for a while... In fact I'm going to do that right, just for kicks.

But this isn't just 100% speculation, it's 95%... the picture actually exists.

By "moving on to new things" perhaps they would be making two games at once. There are compainies that have done it, but I don't think ES is big enough to do that.

I just think it means re-working the AoE formula to something new.

anyone else notice how AGE5's picture is practically a complete steal of the Mjolnir armor suit of the Halo series? Look at the leg armor, its exactly the same. Personally I think moving into ww1/2 and modern day is a bad idea. When you think of the Age series, you think of "ancient warfare" (swords, shield etc), but definately NOT machine guns.
