Back in AoM with the 1600 ranking system, winning games would give you a higher ranking and losing would give you a lower one obviously. I could win a bunch a games against opponents who I was better than, then lose games to opponents who were better than me, until my rating leveled out and opponents were about the same as me. This way I was able to play people of my own skill until I got better. In AoE 3 you receive XP win or lose. I won a ton of games, getting my rating up to about 1850 and my home city up to 26, then I played a bunch of people who were better than me, such as iamgrunt for instance(because of the home city search), and of course I lost to them, my rating dropped to like 1740, but my home city level does NOT change. How am I supposed to get better when I am forced to play people that are so much better than me?

I just hate how I go 30-3 with a civ, then all the sudden I play guys like iamgrunt, everyone is French, and everyone COMPLETELY kicks my ass. With the old rating system you could kind of ease on into tough competition. I'd hate to make a new home city because half the point of home cities were to get rid of smurfing...
