Too bad it's a wee light on the detail, but it's nice to see Canada's largest newspaper write an article on the subject.

The Ratings should be reversed. I give AOEIII a 4.5/5 and a 3/5 for Civ IV. I couldn't even play the dam game 'Cause it wouldn't even load! (Yeesh!)

I think it's hard to compare the two because they aren't the same type of game. Both are good in there own ways - CIV for TBS, AoE3 for RTS.

Terribly written, even if they think Civ IV is better than AoE III, which is fine, it's extremely stupid to say aoe is 1/2 of a star above the center of the bell curve. In college, we learned things like this first-second year. Wonder where these guys got an education, if they even got one at all.

I like seeing gaming get attention, however that article reads like if one of us wrote an article about basket weaving.
Out of curiosity, to anyone who has Civ IV, is the Multiplayer actually feasable? Or is it one of those Multiplayers that only work if both guys commit to a 4 hour a day, 3 week play schedule for a game.

Here's a Civ4 review from a multiplayer perspective: The World As You Know It Is Changed by Friedrich Psitalon, who was an excellent Civ3 player.
Some excerpts:
On connectivity: "Gamespy NAT negotiation allows people behind routers, firewalls, etc, to play with no trouble at all - no opening or closing of ports, zones, etc [...] The days of 'X can't connect with Y ever for some weird reason' are over."
On OOS: "How does 'gone' strike you? If someone has a different version than you (meaning modded files of any type) you'll see the OOS return - otherwise, never again."
On "imposters" (a.k.a. smurfs): "No longer an issue. Everyone has a specific nick when they log into CIV."
On civ balance: "Are they all equal? No. Are they all playable in MP? Yes! Every trait combination has an angle which can work in some way in MP"
On game length: "CIV plays faster than C3C, as a rule [...] Typically, a decent-length CIV game is about 2.5 hours, and 150 turns."
Sounds pretty good to me . (I liked Civ3 a lot and I'm thinking of getting Civ4 sometime soon)

I don't know if you noticed and all, but most of the above are either already on ESO2, or are under works . Except for the Firewall/Router part I'm guessing.

I'm well aware of that. I never said they weren't, did I? Just pointing out that Civ4 also appears to be a viable multiplayer game, that's all.

Some people reported having problems with ESO because of routers I think.

AoE3 = king of out of sync errors.

AoE3 has solved this "issue" (an issue which is non existent anyway because of lack of a real rating system).

AoE3 = Not all civs are truely viable in the good rook/inter level.

AoE3 plays much faster and is in real time. The games tend to last only a short time and as a result require much less strategy then a CIV game. This however is something purely based on preference as some people neither have the time nor patience for a 2.5 hour game.
