However, he did not report what the name of the weapon was, so I took it upon myself to contact my uncle, who just so happens to be a historian who has experience working in many major museums throughout the US.
He admits that his studies aren't exactly strong in South American history, though he does know a lot about the Incans and current events going on in South America.
Anyway, I sent him the screenshot in an email and asked if he could identify the natives dressed in blue or the weapons they were carrying. He told me that the weapons were definitely mabobos and that mabobos were actually used by various native tribes in South America. He said even the Incans had used such weapons. -- He didn't specify how often they were used or what time period exactly.
As for the native warriors, he said that they looks similar to Incan warriors, and that they must be from South America for that reason and because of the weapons they're wielding. He was confused as to why the natives wearing red were in the picture because of the attire and gunpowder weapons present. He also noticed that the trees looked a little odd for the climate.
The only guesses that he made as to what tribes the native units could be from that are relevant to the time period and that were present among the Andes mountains are the following (you can click them to read more about them):
- He mentioned other possibilities, but since the game takes place after the 1500's the other cultures can't be possible for AOE3 because they were conquered. He listed them because they were people who looked like the natives in the picture, like I asked. [This message has been edited by Cy Marlayne (edited 03-15-2006 @ 08:46 PM).]

Now we know that the weapons ARE mabobos and that the new native tribe could be the Aymara or the Uros. Since the Aymara were a larger tribe, I'm willing to bet it's them.
