For now, people are playing the native civisliations. Innovating, developing new strategies and mostly playing vs other natives. I believe this will continue only for a short while and people will return to equally strong European civs.

To be quite honest I still can't see sioux, aztec or iroquois killing a good Spanish FFer before it is all too late. Boosted rodelero shipments and dogs will keep the natives off until the Spain can get to fortress where a huge meatshield of pikes and rodeleros will prevent cavalry based armies approaching to attempt to kill the 2 falconets the Spain will undoubtedly have.
I think once people get over the native civs, they will realise that Spain is still just as strong if not stronger than ever... I think that the natives are just the flavour of the moment.
