Yes Ronin and Falconets will do that to you ...
Not to mention the likes of Mamelukes, Spahi, Elmeti, and highly upgraded Abus Guns. The ratio is further improved by usage of Priests to heal wounded units, that would've otherwise died.

Ender FTW! Ronins are definately a great replacement for janissary as counter cavalry.
Ulti's word of wisdom :
since the start of aoe3, every unit that can move has been a direct counter to grenadiers, even villagers(since they have bonuses against siege troops)

i dont really understand why this is a big deal...i know schildpad said that ronin/falc would be useless or something but..
a) this is a single game with no rec where some odd new strat from you worked b) abus were still your core unit, nothing different from pre-patch c) most unusual thing is jans replaced by ronin, which couldve been done just as easy in 1.02.
its not like this is some 1.03-breaking strat...

^ I dont care, thats awsome!! ronins own so hard...
i dont really understand why this is a big deal...i know schildpad said that ronin/falc would be useless or something but..
a) this is a single game with no rec where some odd new strat from you worked b) abus were still your core unit, nothing different from pre-patch c) most unusual thing is jans replaced by ronin, which couldve been done just as easy in 1.02.
A) This is not the first game in which I've used Ronin in 1.03 with success. I posted these particular game stats because I used to go back and forth with Jbird, barely maintaining a lead in our matches. He's a Dutch opponent I've learned to respect.
B) Abus were not the core unit. They were a supporting one that I had to get for the Ruyters who sniped my Falconets and the Landsknecht who charged my cannons and cavalry (and Falconets tend to do zero damage to units in point blank range), as well as against enemy Culverins and Falconets. There was 6400 gold invested into Ronin, 5000 gold into Abus Guns and 4000 gold into Falconets. Another 2000 gold into Merc cavalry. There would've actually been even less Abus Guns if I didn't have to do some fighting in Colonial (before Falconets and Ronin become available, which is why you see 16 Jans in the stats).
C) Yes, this exact strat could have been done under 1.02. Yet there was no incentive. Now that Abus Guns are a lot less effective, you're forced to find alternatives to do more with your resources. And Ronin happen to be a hell of a lot more cost effective than Janissaries at protecting against heavy amounts of cavalry (especially Mercs or Lancers/Cuirassiers). I really don't understand why more Dutch don't use them, as they have an even easier access to gold than my Ottomans.
Quoted from exc4libulz1022:
its not like this is some 1.03-breaking strat...
Groundbreaking it most certainly isn't, but it is a new strat. I wish this game was recorded as you'd then see what I mean. When I finalize the strat and finish testing the different versions in my head, I'll write it up as I did with my previous ones.
P.S. That's weird, why don't Priests show up on game stats?

1. i never said they were useless, i just said they arent some kind of impossible to counter combo, and i still think that.
2. I guess i know need to make a new topic pointing you out on the patch 1.02 stats that clearly indicates ottoman are by far the 3rd civ. Nothing close to the civs below them.
3. Do we really need this pathetic topics for every time you win as colonel vs a major? Lets minutemen rush a conscript, ZOMG minutemen rush OP.
4. intresting definition of a support unit you got...

Uh... Due to the nature of the topic, I'm going to close this. Please, Ender, if you want to discuss a Ronin + Abus Gun combo, then make a less "direct" topic.
Closed.
