What makes japan so good is:
- "Safe" eco, where they pretty much wont have to leave the TC before their gold mines run out.
- Better shrines fueling their economy a little more meaning they can get more units out. And sure, shrines dont gather that fast, but they're enough to make a differense. (Mostly to make up for the fact that they cant hunt putting them on par with hunting civs imo.
Meanwhile they can pose as Map-controlers and give you a hint on what units your opponent have.
- Ashigarus may have been nerfed but they're still VERY good.
There's a "strat" where the Japanese player pretty much Semi-FFs while "camping" in his base with some Yumi and all Ashi he can muster. His first wonder is the T-Gates giving him more shipments. (even if he doesnt fight his build-bounty is multiplied by 1.5). To fortress he goes with the Golden Pavalion.
Now. Count the number of upgrades avalable to Ashigaru.
1. +20% Veteran stats.
2. +15% Colonial Card.
3. +15% and +1counter against Cavalry. Fortress card.
4. +10% Golden pavalion Gun-unit dmg upgrade #1 (advanced arsenal)
5. +15% Golden pavalion Gun-unit dmg upgrade #2 (advanced arsenal)
6. +10% The boost Golden Pav. gives to ranged units. Im not sure about it's percentage, but it's something like 10% I think.
As if this wasnt enough their siege can also be upgraded from onin war.
"Dont let him get that far". Easy to say. A good jap is nearly impossible to raid before this, will scout you if you'd spam a direct counter and make some Nagi. And no, he wont even need a Stable for that since most japs send the Colonial Daimyo. Since the shrines pretty much make up for the lost hunting, he isnt penalized for staying in his base.
After upgrades Ashigaru are pretty much unbeatable. Their base attack has been janked up to around 40 meaning they can OHK-cannon in larger groups, so no Falcs for you. (unless you have a good amount of them only available early to the nerfed dutch.) You cant throw cav at them for obvious reasons. Their attack is on par with a Skirm (unless he's got counter-inf rifling.) As if this wasnt enough they have the siege to easliy take on buildings without any support.
Jeez, this post is getting pretty long, and I havent touched Samurais yet. All in all they're super-fast anti-cav units with splash and the siege of a grenadier. They can with ease hit and run buidlings in smaller groups. Not to mention what happens to cavalry getting too close.
Q: How do I get veteran skirms as the dutch?
- you have to buy the upgrade in the the barracks lol it should be under the skimiser logo. -you have to be in age3 to get veteran and age 4 to get guard.
After realizing they get automatically upgraded:
- o right i play brits so i just guessed.....thats slighly embarrasing lol
