3 vills first, not only because of the diversity of resources that they can gather, but villagers gather faster than fishing boats. Boats gather at .66 resources for food and coin, while villagers gather food at .75 for hunts.
Fishing boats, on the other hand, would be less value if you already have sent schooners and team schooners, because you could build them for 45 wood.
Having both wouldnt be too bad of an idea, I do it with Sioux on water decks, its a great eco booster if you havent taken advantage of the water yet.
Rushing With France the french ar general an bad civ. bcause they know what the enemy can do! as an french u must luck that u have more crossbows then pikes. pikes ar only for buildings or cav. the deck should have in 3 hussars. thats the way to winning! a nother good card is 700 wood and 700 food. have fun by capture the enemy -Loessli

It's harder to raid boats though.

Vills are faster at gathering, but boats are cheaper and have less of a chance of getting killer unless the other guy makes ships also.

On a land map, 3 Vills are always better than 3 Fishing Boats

It depends, if you have alot of upgrades for fishing boats, they are by far the best gatherers, try to keep a seperate deck that includes these, just in case you are playing on a map with water, you most of the time have the best score if you have about 20 fishing boats, but if you include fishing boat upgrades, you will have an awesome economy

Well said Calier, and to add to that, 1 plus 1 is 2.

naturally you will have sent all the fishing upgrades before your first card... BTW, they aren't the best gatherers by far, vills gathering can be upgraded more than fish boats can with cards.
