I am new to the game, I am currently using the British with mixed Success. i start off by sending all my villagers to gather food so i can advance to colonial fast. Once i get to Colonial i use my villager cards and start to harvest all the resources. I usally have about 25-40 villagers gathering resources. I start building Muskateers, Dragoons, and Field Guns, I build towers around my TC for protection. I advance to Fortress around 7-10 min. I send a fortress card and build close to my base for added protection. I upgrade my musketeers to redcoats and i upgrade my dragoons. The Problem i run into is after about the 15 min i get attacked and my Civ. usually folds, or if i survive im on the defensive for the rest of the game! What am i doing wrong? Is the problem that i am the British? If so what Civ should I be? I usually always end up playing against someone who is Ottoman, is that a bad matchup? Do I need more Villagers? Do I need to go with Different Troops?

You don't need to change your civ, you just might need to change what you do.

Yes lord_sami is right, most people don't play for rank, they just play for fun, it's a very entertaining game if you just have fun.

Also adjust your choice of troops to his. Since Jans are heavy infantry they will win to your dragoons, and considering the small choice of british infantry, you might want to try either to upgrade your longbowmen or grenardiers.
Also, don't give the opponent breathing time. If he loses an army while attacking, attack him, cuz he is low on troops.
Make a small and fast army to raid him while he is attacking, most likely he will not notice you entering his base if hes microing his troops.
If this all doesn't help, just consider a different civilization. Maybe play a few unrated games with your new civ, to be able to discover the full options.
