Soon it will be 2010, Robot Entertainment has still not mentioned anything (for 6 months at LEAST). How is the gaming world of AOE3 while I have been gone in the land of burning tyres? Is eso still functional?

If they made an AOE4 it would have to be a cold war game.
We may or may not get to play as the actual empires (U.S. Russia) we would be playing as the countries they were vying for influence over. Vietnam and Korea weren't the only wars after all.
But probably just the smaller countries as they have easier to quantify strengths and weaknesses and their wars were more interesting.
I'm, guessing you'll see things like Israel as a rush civ utilizing Slightly more costly but stronger units.
India as the mass unit civ.
Pakistan as the turtle civ.
They'll toss in Syria or Egypt.
Good chance we'll see Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Malaysia
Assault Riflemen will replace melee, snipers replace ranged, tanks will replace cavalry, they will however likely take 3 population minimal.
Planes will be treated like long ranged artillery, artillery will be treated like artillery and probably a few more things in there for spice.
Instead of ages you'll have stages.
Stage 1 is called something like deployment
stage 2 is whatever military term comes after.
Then stage 3 and 4.
I say its very possible to have a modern game in the AOE formulae. I see no reason for it not to work.
Dont want to rain on your parade, but that sounds like Men of War/Company of Heroes.
The only chance i see IMO is Redoing AoE2:AoK. Did you see the graphics to Medeval:Total War? Why cant we do the same to an RTS?(slightly less beautiful)And there is still so much more to the medeval times.

Not a bad idea, Mr. ElBow, but then it wouldn't be AOE4.
It'd be something else. Maybe like... er...
Age of Empires: The Conquests of Medieval Kings.
I dunno.
But AOE 4 implies that there has been some advance in time, not a regression to a previous era.

Call me out if I fail or seem to fail to live up to either of these. Either I will learn something, you will learn something, or we both will.

I would actually quite enjoy a remake of AoE1 :P
You'll remember that four (!) hour game against that crazy Russian that wouldn't give up, not realizing he was playing someone who in real life actually is a crazy Russian, that won't give up either. - Ender_Ward

AoM didn't sell as well as the Empire series so I kind of super highly doubt that we'll be seeing AoM2 any time soon.
