Hello guys, this is my first 'real' attempt at a good screenshot. Despite not being a fan of the game itself I ended up buying it last week. I have designed actively for AoK for three years now but have never touched the scenario editor in AoM (which I also own but rarely play) and thus aren't familiar at all with the interface of the AoE3 editor. Any newbie guide to scenario design is appreciated.

It looks good, but why did you make it at the end of the map, I don't like black skies behind trees. =P

Heh, I wondered that too since it blocked me from expanding the forest further into the distance to eliminate the black sky. I guess that's the stuff that happens when you don't pay enough attention.

But I'm not too troubled by the black patches anyway. It gives the inner forest a dark and murky feeling, a great contrast when put next to the dazzling beach. About the cabin, I'm pretty satisfied with the looks of the current one. No offense.

So, this place seems a little quiet. Are there any exciting playable maps in development?

Aoe3 Eye-Candy design is ridiculous. While in AoM we had to make marvelous buildings, editing the height of terrain, using and abusing of special effects, in this game you can post anything and it looks good. Be more creative guys and stop putting some trees, some water, some bushes and calling it Eye-Candy.

I'm going to say this once.

Eye-Candy has improved much since I started. I started a year ago...Now when I was updating tonight, a lot of these guys are new guys, and that's the way they learn. That's the way I learned. With time and practice, do you become a great like Steel and Twoq.

But I am sad to say that eye-candy has dropped tremendously in amount of it put out. When I was actually making shots, I would put out a couple a day, with twoq, Shaw, and various others. We get a couple a week now, which is really pathetic.

I think you've been damaged by AoM. I've played several AoM designs and I'm quite tired of huge building complexes, waterfalls, sunken cities, sized-up units and so on. Beauty does not have to hit you like an uppercut in your face. That's why you can visit the Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon and Mount Everest and still appreciate your own backyard more. "Putting some trees, some water and some bushes" can produce much better eye candy than stacking fifty different buildings on top of each other and render fifteen trigger effects for the final shot. That is, if it's done with great care. When I made my shot for the current screenie contest I was very careful with things such as unit placement, terrain elevation and colour scheme. There is however nothing extraordinary to the shot; I think anyone can figure out how I made it. Still, people seem to appreciate it.

Or you become a grumpy fellow that just doesn't care about what others think of your shots, but just likes to makesome new shot using some new technique or whatever, like me
