Age of Empires III : The Age of Fantasy is an upcoming mod made by Twisted Fiend.

Version : TWC

Coding and Lead Designer and stuff: Twisted_Fiend.
Texturing and art coding: Linuchadnezzar and peugeot407
RM scripting: Twisted_Fiend
AI scripting: Not Known Yet
Testing: peugeot407
Screenshot-taking: peugeot407

So far the cast, though it can expand.
Release date: Not known yet.

Not much is known, YET.
Even the name isn't sure. Until then, it's Age of Fantasy!
Soon more info and screenies.



The Civilizations are:

Men

Elves

Orcs

Undead

AoE3 will never support a decent LOTR mod. You cannot simply call elephants "oliphaunts". You cannot call a normal unit "hobbit". It won't work. So, I suggest you to create a fantasy mod, not based 100% on LOTR! - Tahattus, I believe

So we WON'T include ANY hobbit or oliphaunt(no mumakil either)!!


4 humanoid races: men, elves, orcs and undead.


random maps: very important to the mod. 4 at the beginning, and they would contain triggers (yes, from scenario. It was possible in AOM, should be possible for Aoe3). These triggers would control the spawn of wild animals, and most important: day and night cycle.


During the day (6 minutes), LOS is large, huntables and herdables spawn. Elves heal themselves during the day, but are weaker during the night.

During the night (6 minutes), all LOS is reduced. Aggressive animals (wolves, bears) spawn. Undead are not affected by LOS reduction, but get vulnerable during the day.

The Orcs get their HP increased when together, but are usually weak.

Men are balanced.


Units are more simple than you think. No "hashashaspsku knight", let's think easier:

> Barracks: swordsman, axeman, pikeman.
> Stables: scout, knight, horse archer.
> Archery: archer, skirmisher, gunner.
> Temple: trains magicians.
> Dock: Ships (Fishing Ship, Light Ship, Medium Ship, Heavy Ship.)
> ?????: Ram, Cannon, Petard


Every race gets TWO unique units. They are based on LOTR, WC, or any other fantasy games.

Instead of treasures there are huari strongholds who have a small army garrisoned inside. After you defeat it you get some gold/xp/whatever

Trees grow after some time; gold is replaced by some weird mineral they all love.


No natives, no trading posts, but "temples" instead. They produce gold. Player should fight for them.


Instead of age up, it's camp > village > town > city > large city


4 maps are: a cute forest, a desert, the mountains and the marsh.


Instead of explorers, there's a scout. He'll get to do the scouting, exploring, and stuff. You can buy a hero. These heroes will have some ablities.
It's not sure if he will get magic attacks: water, fire, thunder... or something more concrete, less fantasy, but after all it's Age of Fantasy!


Some ideas are modding no-nos. That's why RM TRIGGERS are fundamental!

So it's Middle-Earth-like.
We have got some more info, but nothing is sure, only the civs and the outline above^^^^^^^^.

Peugeot's texturing is still unknown. Well actually I kow what things he has finished but he hasn't sent them to me yet. BTW he has paused his work in the mod for a while, he's now working on K&B or KBM, or simply Knights and Barbarians.

some units look quite allike to some extend that is good but it would be better if one could differenciate between them quite easy to make gameplay more easy

You're right. The things that make halbs different from pikes are their helmets and armors. In this mod, they HAD the same helmets and almost the same armor. I've changed the helmets now, I replaced the age4 cuir helmet with an age4 longbow helmet. Is this different enough?

Wow, the ship looks great, it really has an "undead" feeling. Or a "pirate" feeling... it's good nonetheless

And IMO you should use different animations for the human infantry, so there's no confusion between them.

Hmmm. Trying to variablelize the galley...
Does anyone know how to make texture variables? I tried looking in the villie xmls but couldn't get any clue.
PS: This is perhaps the texturing work I'm gonna enjoy most of all: texturing ships. You edit one tiny .ddt, get a big modified ship and nice comments concerning it too.

I like..
  • ...the Orcs. Nice made, you could maybe darken the green a bit. Seems a bit too light to me.
  • .. the Skull Galley (5/5).

    I don't like..
  • ..the Undead Swordsmen. Too much 'Morgan' - Undeads have masses of light infantry, but they have 2H-Swords, too mighty for an undead.
  • ..the Elven Pikeman and Swordsman. I'm missing the perfectionism and elegance of Elves in their armament. The Swordsman for example shows too much of the player color, you should reduce it and give him instead more armament above. Even though I like the Axemans style an axe seems very unusal for Elves to me.
  • ..the Men Swordsman, Pikeman and Axeman. They look like bombed with some colors. The emblem suxx.

    I recommend you to change more of the armament if you texture an unit, more combinations! If you don't, they won't have an unique effect on the player of your mod.

    Suggestion: The ork Axe is really small, use the strelet one. PS: The orks are really thin, can the chilche/morgan body be used?

    suggestion for the undead: lots of skeletons, i think the tupi archer cold make a good base model for a skeleton

    BTW I really like the style of the Elves and Orcs but I don't like the human units, I think you should shape them up a bit.

    I will revise some units.
    I think undead sword can have a smaller weapon, but then the heavy armor seems silly. And I think the undead should have at least one h.armor guy. But I will change his look, so he's not too morgan.
    The men soldiers: do they have an emblem? Didn't knew that.
    But I will make them more single colored.
    The elven guys: I will change the current halb(axe)man into another pike. It can have a different name, and different helmet?armor like now.
    Their clothing: I tried everything but I can't seem to make it elegant. I'm more of a military texturer.
    Thanks for the 'rating' of the Corsairs of the Skull galley.

    The orcs are indeed a little thin, but sioux/iro units is the only way cause they don't have armor, and since I can't model, only texture...
    The chilche would be an option, but
    A I would steal someone's idea from a scen design thread
    B He's an IGC(In Game Cinematic) unit. Not sure if he even has got an attack animation.

    That's hard because I can't texture the flesh surounding the bones away. But maybe a half-rotten zombie with some pieces green/red/anyway bloody and some pieces bone.

    The only problem is the time zone:
    according to HG the Central Amercian Time or something like that is : something like 2:00 AM. In the Netherlands it is now: 8:00 AM

    Elves:
    Axeman - good helmet and armament, wrong weapon
    Swordman - helmet and armament is missing, weapon works, even if I could imagine better ones
    Pikeman - clumpy helmet, average armament

    The helmet and armament of the axeman would also fit to the archers very well.

    The Humans looked a bit overcolored. I think they had a lot of banners and emblems. The best examples are given in LotR and WarCraft, you should make better or more precise researches.
    I had my doubts but I guess this will come along just fine.
    I also agree. Seems Fiend found a capable texturer.
