The Ancient Age is a Total Conversion Mod for Age Of Empires III TAD about the Ancient Times, which will be made by Tilanus Commodor & Ca Putt. Almost everyone of us started just with a minor basic knowledge, but we are developing ourselves. The Ancient Age is not an Age Of Mythology or Age Of Empires I Remake. Nevertheless the Age Of Empires Series is among other RTS-Games a true inspiration for us.

It is our aim to include five new civilisations: The Carthaginians, Celts, Hellenes, Persians and Romans. Besides we are willed to develop an unique gameplay, which will be a good contrast to other mods and the original game. This includes for example a new building & unit system. Since the modification's setting takes place in a completely different age you can expect a lot of new material. More details will be revealed when the time is better.

Realization of 'The Ancient Age'
To realize a huge project like The Ancient Age an active team is absolutely needed. Even if there is already a new active team, we'd like to extent the amount of workers to speed up the process of production. Therefore we are looking for new ambitious members, who want to learn fast and work practically.

We appreciate every new interested request, even if we have to refuse some people, they tried it and had the good intention to help us.
The more people work for our project, the faster will we finish it, simpliest logic, isn't it? So take your chance and prevent stagnation or a long periods of waiting. We support everyone who »really« wants to help us and is not just taking a look for two weeks. Thanks.

Cause we've just started with it. A temple and the Roman TC is done so far. At the moment I'm the only building texturer and I've had a pretty busy November. Next time I'll continue working on the next buildings.

I guess the next showcase will be about Hellenic units.

I think you people will have a lot of trouble by making this ancient buildings, cause they're so diferent from the game ones.

Some things are just annoying, like parts of a texture that are used on different places of a building, but I'm sure they won't look too distorted related to history.

Hey guys,

I know it's been a long time. It's my last school year, you know. And the team never worked as it was supposed to work. So here we go with some Non-promo screens, I just post these screenies to show that there is still some progress, even if it's only me and Ca Putt working on that mod. =) I feel that this might be even better than working with an untrustworthy team.

Nice shots, Tilanus. I'm sure you already know this, but you probably don't want to use InvisibleProjectiles for your ranged units. It took me a couple seconds to figure out why I should stop looking for who's shooting .

Haha, do you think I'm that bad? Everything's correct, what else could a slinger use as projectile?

But the trail seems a bit weird, can't that be changed? Lol, didn't know it was a slinger though. I thought it might be a javelineer, lol.

These trails are a must for gameplay. If you look at units with similar projectiles, i.e. bullets, used by all musket units, you'll also see these trails. If you'd only make the effect on the target visible, it's harder to get to know for a player from where his units are getting attacked. So the trail creates an useful connection between two fighting objects. In case of the slingers it's definitely a must, since he has the highest range of all, which means that it could happen quite often that you find yourself in a situation where you can't see the slingers themselves (if the LOS of your units is too small), but need to see the "fire line" to see where the attack came from. IMO this is a quite helpful and highly important feature.

btw:

Looks good! Even though your earlier complaints about the low productivity, I say every minute spent on creating these units is a minute well spent, for the quality of the textures is amazing.
Think you people will have a lot of trouble by making this ancient buildings, cause they're so diferent from the game ones.
Not every building in the ancient world looked like the great temples of those days, most of the buildings wouldn't have any pillars or stairs at all. In most cases a Southern European building with a slightly different texture would suffice.

I know it's thousands of years ago I posted here, but I still wanted to say, we (me and my buddy Ca Putt) are not dead, nor the project is, however, I can only show you some old shabby screenshots!

The JPEG quality sucks and yeah, they're old (some very old, some still up-to-date, but I'm not going to say which ones ) - ask if you have questions! (except the release date -_- ).

Tilanus, you're the man when it comes to unit texturing. I really like the shields of both civs and I just love the Greek cavalry... One slight suggestion for the buildings though: increase the textures contrast with about 20 to 30 per cent and add more depth into the bumpmap (Old pic from KnB as example). Even though I know in this picture it has been slightly overdone, it still serves as a good example of the effect of bumpmaps...

PS: Would you please do a direct link to the images next time? This is so bloody annoying...

»Victorious Roman Cavalry«

Imperial Equites are available in Age IV. In opposite to all previous Equites, the Imperial Eques upgrade comes with a new additional weapon, the "spatha", a cavalry longsword. With this addition it will be much easier for Equites to face tougher enemies. However, this service benefits only the ones who are willing to pay more!

Medium cavalry means that the cavalry is strong but expensive ??

I'll assume that medium cavalry means their heavy cavalry isn't as strong as other civs'.
