So, playing as sioux, i am greatly disadvantaged when i face armies of well-mixed heavy and light infantry. i mean, there is no way i can figure out how to defeat theM?
for instance: abus/jans or strelets/musket
actually, these are the only combos that i've seen "mix" perfectly. like they are exactly mixed in... like instead of all strelets there is a musket in place of the strelet
my usual colonial army is composed of 10-20 cetans and 10-15 axe riders. and as you know axe rider > strelets/abus and cetans > muskets/jans ...but when they are mixed in so perfectly i just get owned... AND they are all ranged so maybe someone knows how to counter skirm/bow types without cav pls share
question for y'all: How do you beat it!?

Except against Abus Guns, a pure previously-known-as-light-infantry army will win that (something like pure Wakina).

AR + Cetan will beat most of those combos with good micro. Including jans + abus.

Skirmisher Infantry versus Heavy Infantry micro is a skill that just takes a lot of practice. You'll have to find out how many units kill the other (i.e: 4 colonial dutch skirmishers for a colonial musketeer) and then train in selecting exactly 4 at the time (you'll notice that your units always stand a set distance from each other) because using groups and teams takes too much time, when you take into account you'll be taking some losses as well.

Cetans are pretty up there when it comes to LI. So just spam cetans. Not sure when it comes to abus though... Other wise just spam wakinas. They're are so cheap and easy to mass and intimidate your opponent. IMO
If you keep spamming wakinas, he will be forced to change the balance of his army to more abus or whatever and then bring in the raiders. Another thing, if he has jans and abus and you bring the axe riders to the front, he will probably stick his jans in melee and come forward to attack the riders. Then you back your riders out and circle his army while your cetans pick off his jans.

since HI has a longer range, he will either have to move his abus with the jans, missing shots while you shoot him, or, in the case of worse players, he will leave his abus unprotected behind the jans and you can run by with your cav. if he keeps them toghether maybe spam only LI? or focus on hi first until he has too few to kill your AR
