I play 40min treaty games and often lose because of my lack of walling skill, How do I successfully make a compact colony that I can wall in logically?

I'm never going to treaty, I just wanna have ~2 games to see if there is reallly any skill in it...

To this entire argument about treaty, which has been somewhat amusing. Treaty does take different skills then rush. Yes i agree rush is much more difficult. But there ae great treaty players if you just spam cuirs as french vs a good player you will get your ass in your head, cus he'll break through one of ouyr walls near the edge and before you know it you have 30cuirs running back to your base to save it.
Rlly french are not tht great in treaty they do have the cuir which is a pain in the ass, but rlly Russia and the aztecs with stealth have it the best(idk asian civs). Russia runs around with forts everywhere, and opri. Aztecs put stealth units near your base and then they pop up. Also ports are cool, but to compare treaty to rush games is apples to oranges.
With rush your constantly doing things superfast and need to be on your toes. From when i've played treaty, i've realized you have to cut excess villies as your economy is so strong, and put outposts and forts on either side of the map, and try to never have your pop maxed.

France still has the advantage.
Ports, Have excellent anti Cav, But Scrimers/Heavy Cannon is not good for the poor Ports. With 120 Pop vs 100 The French player of equal skill has more room to work with than the equal playing Port player.
Spain, again awesome anti Cav, But the only unit that is carded from a Spainish HomeCity, to deal with French Scrimers are Lancers...Lancers lose to any Cav at all.
Even with help from the Missionaries, French cannon will reach out and touch your Holy Men today. 120Pop/100Pop Again.
Japs are awesome boomers, but The French eco will be better than yours. No doubt. Sams will be useless unless youre sieging. Ashis lose to that damned French Cannon/Scrimer. There isnt a good open combo, since the French either outrun you or out range you while Having a better eco than you.
The problem doesn't lay with the huge OMG FRENCH UNITS SO OP.
Its that the Royal and Carded units for France, covers each units weakness perfectly. Scrimers/Cuirs/Cannon. Its a Very hard set to break. Given the Time and Resource count France will have, the only choice you have is to raid them hard and fast. A prolonged Military conflict with A France commander equal to yourself will end in a manor in his favor, because he can field more troops and different kinds of troops.
France = Lots of different unit types. Its the Diversity thing.
