Reading Metamorphisis tonight, and maybe finishing Dead-Eye Dick by Vonnegut aswell. Also, my english teacher gave me about four collegiate literature books with various poems, short stories, essays, and plays in them so I'm going to look through those, and read what I find interesting.

Finally finished the last 100 pages of Taiko, and I'm starting on Murasaki. The Japanese literature provided a different enough perspective, especially considering that it pretty popular in Japan in the immediate pre-WWII era, around 1935, though it interestingly enough doesn't scream nationalism or belligerence. Taiko seems about an individual's - Taiko's - development; progressing from boyhood and irresponsibility to military dictator, or shogun, of Japan. I'm having a hard time deriving much else concrete from the book; traditional values or respect and honor are commonly emphasized, but nothing groundbreaking. Perhaps a tempered aggression would be the main theme, as both the patient and aggressive daimyo are defeated in the scope of the book.
That said, anyone read Crime and Punishment? It looks around 560 pages, but the whole Russian Lit part is rather scary.
