Hadn't heard of Kerbal Space Program, but it sounds awesome, will probably give it a try since I have a degree in that shit.

i just downloaded the comsat mod thing, i have no idea what i'm doing but now that i have some satellites in orbit the map view looks really cool. i have two in geostationary orbit (one right above ksc, and one opposite), and then two in 1000km (i think) polar orbits that are offset by 90 degrees, and it seems to give me constant coverage everywhere near kerbin and the mun/minmus. i don't really know what to do with it now though, since actually using the network to fly unmanned spacecraft outside of the kerbin soi seems pretty much impossible with the signal delay. which i get is the point of the plugin, but still.

i've sort of got the hang of eyeballing interplanetary transfers now, at least well enough to make not totally inefficient adjustments on the way there. i never got around to downloading that plugin. i did install mechjeb just for the hell of it, but aside from trying it out a few times to see how it worked, i haven't used it at all. i guess making terrible mistakes and trying to figure how to fix them with as little fuel waste as possible is part of what makes the game so fun for me.

this kerbal space thing sounds great. i think you should keep posting what is happening in your games cos i'm enjoying reading about the disasters and successes. don't think i could play it though - it sounds complicated and i'm pr stupid

you should try it. being stupid and having massive screwups is what makes the game fun.

i also built a cool stock rover, this time a three person one (my last was one person), and it's much, much safer than my last. i think i took screenshots of it. unfortunately i deleted the save file it was in, so i don't think i have it anymore. i did make a similar one today, haven't gotten around to trying it though.

Honestly the relay plugin I mostly use just as a motivation to get cool satellites in orbit and set up an interplanetary network. I don't really care for the delay and as a result don't really use it for that. When I do use the relay I actually cheat a bit and have edited the speed of light to an order of magnitude higher.

As for mechjeb, I mostly like the orbital/flight information panels more than the automation stuff. Admittedly I do use them a bit when I'm doing a lot of repetitive stuff - but then I've been playing it for over a year now and whilst it's still fun to enjoy playing a game that feels like a video Peenemünde test failures sometimes I want to get stuff done.

By the way, have you been to Jool yet? I know it seems massive but in reality it's only about as big as the Earth (a little smaller I think actually), and it's orbit would be between mercury and venus at 0.46 AU.

Also Kerbin would be still inside (the outer regions) of the sun's corona I believe as it orbits at something like <0.1 AU, at which point the heliosphere/solar winds are considered to start.

yeah, i never realized how much smaller the kerbol system was until i started reading a little on the apollo missions on wikipedia and comparing the velocities they achieved to the ones you achieve in the game. it's crazy.

i've been to jool twice but the first time i just crashed into the rocky moon (i think it was tylo) while trying to use it's gravity to slow down, and the second time i got into an orbit around laythe, but used too much fuel and couldn't do anything else. i don't think i've actually just gotten into a stable jool orbit.

I was going to say Maffia is still around (at AoEOH) but that was 4 days ago in my posting history but about 10 months for you guys.
