Being gainfully employed != "not prone to violence against children"
The sets are not mutually exclusive, although the more violent you are the less likely you will be able to find and keep a job.
Compulsory military service for everyone means that if you don't fit in, and your a pencil necked geek, you get a note in your file that you're unfit for service. When you get out, that government file follows you everywhere. So employers who put in their 2 years' worth will see it and think you are a lightweight, or neurotic, and not hire you.
At least voluntary service means if you already KNOW you'll be a poor fit for the army, you can avoid it and that's your choice. A lot of people, including some very fit and stalwart people, choose not to enter military service: they go to law school, start their own business, study abroad, etc. and they have no trouble finding jobs in the job market.
