Hey, guiz, I know you don't like me and all, and I'm kind of a pest, but can I ask you a favour? (Scroll down to the line to see the short version. It's important, and damn it I'm being serious.)

My dad is in the hospital in a coma after two weeks of pneumonia and congestive heart failure. While they were trying to treat in him ER, he stopped breathing for 15 minutes - and that's never good. Now he's sitting in a bed in the ICU, just kinda lying there, maybe moving his head or legs, or trying to open his eyelids.

It's only two, going on three days into his coma, but I want to ask you to pray for my father's speedy and full recovery. Or if you don't pray, could you just hope for the best for him or something?

He's the best friend I have in the world. I can talk to him about many things (not everything, he is my dad, of course), I can tease him, I scratch his back and watch old shows with him. I have had many good times with him, and I don't want to stop having them.

And he's pretty much the cornerstone of our lives. He works hard, he drives us about, he helps us whenever he can, he loves God (which we think is a good thing). His family needs and wants him. We love him.

I want him to see my sister and I graduate from college, see us get married, and meet his grandchildren if that ever happens.

And so many other people love him and depend on him. We have had visits from two uncles of mine, at least one cousin, at least three aunts, my sister's boyfriend, two other friends of my sister's, a friend on my mom's, three of my father's co-workers (and friends), one priest, two chaplains, the necessary medical staff of course, and at least one person who I don't know but who probably fits into one of these categories. Many people have prayed for him in his room, outside of his room, and on the Internet.

Hopefully I needn't tell you that there've been a lot of tears, hugs, and sadness in my family for the past two to three days. We don't want him to die. We don't want him to be a vegetable, or mentally crippled. We want him as we know him, because we need him that way, and we want him that way.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please pray for my father's swift and full recovery from his coma, because so many people need him, love him, and depend on him.

Thank you for reading this.

...[T]he least initial deviation from the truth is multiplied later a thousandfold. -Aristotle, De Caelo

On the lips of the catechist the first proclamation must ring out over and over: “Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.” - Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel

Call me out if I fail or seem to fail to live up to either of these. Either I will learn something, you will learn something, or we both will.

Recovered, or gone to Heaven?

EDIT: Eh, you're almost certainly referring to the latter meaning, so I'm going to run with that.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father. I've never lost ANYBODY close to me, so I honestly cannot feel your pain, but I can attempt to imagine it. I am sure he was a good man in life, and it is a shame he died.
Rest in peace.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you and your family.

My dad passed away without warning last year, so I know what you are going through. All I can say is your family will be so important right now, stick together, help each other and just be there for one and other.

If you need someone to talk to, i'm here
