what's up beautifuls. i haven't been reading at all lately, but in july i read american gods by neil gaiman which was zzzzzz. anyway though the main reason i'm posting here is because i just order some books off amazon, including the book of chameleons which i think shrink recommended like a decade ago but i've never been able to find in a local bookstore, and also one about ohio or something that drnick recommended. so yeah.
right now i'm reading another book of short stories by murakami which i kind of like i guess, but i have no thoughts to share about them.
haven't watched too many movies either, although a few weeks ago i saw a few russian movies.
one was The Cranes Are Flying, which was really simple and even cliché storywise, but i thought it was kind of touching otherwise so i liked it (but didn't love it). it's a movie from the 50s i think that takes place during wwii in russia (obv.). only one scene takes a place on the front though so it's a movie about the homefront.
then i watched stilyagi (i guess that translates loosely to 'hipsters') which is a musical and really fun to watch, but from a story standpoint it's awful so that made it pretty unsatisfying. still it might be worth watching even though i can't give it much praise.
lastly i watched russian ark, which was kind of boring and i don't think i understood the point, but it did have some really interesting scenes. the whole movie was shot in one take and also it's all 1st person pov, which is why it's interesting at times, but aside from that gimmick i'm not sure there's any other reason to watch it (though like i said i might have just missed the point so idk). still for some reason i hold it in a positive light whenever i think about it.
i plan on watching solyaris soon but it's apparently like three hours long and i never feel like committing to it.
edit: also last week i purchased moneyball (yeah i'm lame for waiting until the movie came out to read it) and also onyx and crake by margaret atwood because it looked more interesting than the handmaiden's tale which apparently everyone loves. i'm looking forward to reading both of those as well as the others i just ordered, so hopefully i'll get back in the reading habit again.
