I figure sometimes (maybe 20% of the time) ramming causes both ships to lock together. When that happens the ramming player may attempt to board and slay the enemy crew and marines. The victor is decided then by who has the greatest crew! Also, perhaps Quinquiremes could be "bonused" in boarding in a way that when it's near an enemy ship it can grapple with it and then can board it.
Boarding only works if your ship is garrisoned with units. Likewise, an ungarrisoned ship is easy pray to boarding (but can still move and fight in true 'Age' fashion). A captured ship is brought under the capturing player's control, damage and all. Damaged ships can then be garrisoned in Shipsheds to be repaired automatically (or beached and repaired by soldiers, which is slower), or sent straight back into battle.
I like the idea about ramming and boarding. In battles where the ship wasn't going fast enough and tried to ram, the attacking ship might be the one destroyed while the ship that was rammed would go away largely unharmed.

Should I rename the standard Peltast to "Akontistès"? What to do what to do...

Definitely... since the peltast is named after the pelte which of course the standard Greek javelinists aren't wielding, they have an aspis instead.
I sometimes dispute the accuracy of the Thespian image... let's just say it's plausible for now, and at the very least it looks cool!
edit: Oh, and congrats on finally finding a Hyppikon image!

The Thespians most likely did not wear the 'high crest' and their armor most likely was not painted black; the only black probably being their cloaks and/or tunics (chitons). However, it's the only image available.
I don't see why they wouldn't wear black armour, as it was quite popular in Corinth and could have well been in Boetia. I do doubt they wore capes into battle, though.
One thing I just noticed about the Periokoi picture is that one of the hoplites has red hair. Now, I know that saying all Greeks have dark hair colours is a bit of a stereotype, but I actually thought the only places where red hair was natural was in the British isles, north Gaul and probably Norway. Just a thought - he must have northern heritage.

I think I remember reading that red hair in ancient Greece was rare, but not unheard of. Not sure on that point. Surely a Celtic/Germanic influence.
The farming thing came to me one day when I was messing around with the 0 A.D. Atlas Editor and painting terrain in it. It was such a simple concept and added so much realism and was so intuitive that I just had to add it to "Age of the Aegean." Farms were never these little plots of land like in AOE or AOM. Farmlands are huge, stretching across acres and hactares or land. Plus, a lot of what people fought over back in the early iron age was farmland and other resources. So, instead of the focus being fighting over gold mines like in AOE3 or other age games, why not shift the focus to fighting over farmlands?
Very nice, very, very nice. You've put a lot of detail and thought into this, and I must give you credit. It would seem like a great RTS, but not very "Agey". Mainly the technology system wouldn't have that good old Age of Empires feel, nor would the lack of TC villagers. I'm not trying to insult it or anything, I'm just saying, IMO, that it would not be a true Age of Empires. I'm sure if you could get it made it would be good enough to rival AOE though.
