The Great Desert:
A random map script for AOE3
by Dany
This is my 12th rms map...
Description:
It is a very simple large map...with a Texas rms style:
It has one long trade route running across the map....
plus 4 natives tribes...the comanches...
and many Bisons and Pronghorns to hunt...
and a lot of silver mines...
and also a lot of resources.
I've downloaded a number of your maps so far, but I never played any one of them more than once, and I've deleted them all again. Don't take me wrong - they are not bad. "Solid" is what I would call them. Basically bug-free (as long as I don't use the debugger), reasonably balanced - technically, there's not much I could complain about. The problem is, there is also not much I find to praise.
You've done a dozen or so by now, and from what I've seen they are all more or less identical. Oh, the landscape, player placement, or trade routes vary from map to map, but basically they play all the same. I see no real variation in gameplay, no original ideas at all. As I said above, nothing that would make me want to play one of those map a second time.
You've obviously mastered the basics of map design; I think you should take it a step further now. Have a look at the most successful maps available on this site - just about all of them are somehow "special" in their own way, distinctly different from ES's standard maps. Try to come up with some original idea of your own, something that gives us a little more than two TCs, a trade route and three or four native villages in yet another nondescript landscape.
