Tribal Allies - A new random map script for the AOE3 demo - by RF_Gandalf

Trade Crossings is a new, fairly wide open map designed for 2 players for the demo based on the Texas map. (I do not know that 3 or more players will work, it may get too crowded). The map is slightly larger than the Texas map.

The map features three Native American villages near each player, one each of Iroquois, Cherokee and Commanche (I know the setting looks more Great Plains than the Eastern setting of the Cherokee or Iroquois, but 'gameplay > realism'). These villages are close enough to a player's town that the enemy will never be able to build on them. The theme or basis of ths map is to be able to spam the enemy with a variety of native units. With these civs you get a decent cheap siege unit - the Iroquois mantlet, an anti-cavalry unit that is a fair raider once upgraded - the Comanche horse archer, a decent skirmisher-type unit - the Cherokee rifleman, and the Iroquois tomahawk - sort of a ranged anti-infantry unit.

The map has one trade route with two Trading Posts on it, each being slightly closer to one of the players. In my testing each TP was buildable by either player. The rest of the resources are pretty standard. Each player has a small pronghorn antelope herd in view at the start, with several more available on the map. Each player has 2 bison groups nearby, and there are cows scattered across the map. Each player has a close silver mine and another just a little further out, with more randomly placed. Forest, a few 'treasures' and cliffs are placed randomly about the map.

I think this is a fun variation, a fair, balanced map, and I expect to do similar versions for the game once the full version is released if players find this fun. The only 'glitch' I have noted is that if you use the card that sends free Native American warriors from your Trading Posts, that some Cree Trackers get sent also despite their not being coded for on the map, and they may not be visible depending on your graphics settings.

To use this map (titled Tribal Allies), first go to the RM folder of your game directory, and rename the new england.xs file to new england-original.xs. Then unzip this tribal allies.xs file to your RM directory, and rename it "new england.xs". The next time you play, pick New England map and instead you will get to play this one - just ignore the description (also, you could switch for texas.xs instead if you prefer). Switch files back to get the original New England map again. Eventually when the full game is released we will not need to do this to get a random map installed!
