Updates for multiple random maps

Author File Description
File Details
Game Version: TWC
Multiple maps released by me over the past few months have a small error or bug. This error is found only on 'unknown' style maps that randomize the Native Americans and that contain Caribs as a possible tribe. The error causes only Carib village native trade posts to not be buildable if the Caribs are randomly chosen. The bug is not common - it only occurs 1/3 to 2/5 of the time that the Caribs are one of the selected tribes (depending on the map), which is only between 3/25 - 5/43 of the time (also depending on the map). This bug was just discovered by me and was easily corrected. Perhaps others have noted it, or perhaps no one cared as the native minor civs are so underpowered now that no one builds native TPs, but no one has previously reported the bug to me.

The maps affected include:

for The War Chiefs - the 3 Delta map versions, Mountain Pass TWC, Barrier Ridge TWC, Trade Go Nuts, Gandalf's Random Land MapTWC and Plus version, Gandalf's Giant Random Land Map TWC and Plus version, Gandalf's Isles TWC and Two Rivers.

for original AOE3('vanilla') - only the 3 Delta map versions.

I have posted the updates all in a single zipped file, which contains two zipped files, one for all of theTWC maps, one with the original AOE3 maps. If you had previously downloaded and installed these maps, the easy way to update your maps for TWC is to extract all of the maps (the .xs files) in the TWC updates zip file to your folder: My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\RM2. To update your maps for the original AOE3, extract the Delta maps in the AOE3 updates zip file to your folder: My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\RM. This should overwrite the bugged map files. For those who have not previously downloaded these maps, in the zip file for each game version is a zip file containing BOTH files (the .xs and .xml files) for each map, plus a txt file describing the map. If you have NOT previously downloaded these maps, extract the .xs and .xml file for each desired map into the appropriate folder as above.

Sorry for the inconvenience, sorry for releasing these with a bug, and I hope you all enjoy the maps.

Note - don't try playing the War Chiefs version in original AOE3, that will not work, although the opposite switch does work. AOE3 maps will play in TWC, but any maps using the Aztec, Lakota and Iroquois original minor natives will result in those natives not being able to be built in a Native Embassy.

daemondarque Some of the original maps are among my favorites that I use all the time in multiplayer LAN games; make more! :)

I do have a problem with these updated maps, though--the game will start, and then I get 'out of sync' errors with every one of them, even when the other computers on the LAN have the same updated versions pre-installed. Did I miss a setting or something?

The only way I know of that you would get the OOS message is if one or more of the files are corrupted, or are the original file prior to the update. I have played these new files on a LAN with (but with only 2 computers for the new versions) to test them, however the number should not matter.

My suggestion is to delete all of the .xs and .xml files for each map of concern from every computer - from the folder: My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\RM2, then to re-download the zipped file to one computer, extract the files to one computer, then copy onto each on the LAN (or simply start a game hosted by the machine with the proper map - the files have always transferred OK for me to people I played with.)

Let me know here if this does not work. You are fortunate if you have a good LAN group to play with! Glad you enjoy the maps.

dario29 Thanks RF_Gandalf I'm fan of your random maps, the Delta for 2 player are excellent, Missouri Valley, Missouri Crossing, and the Barrier Ridge TWC also, I'll be happy if you might make a update of the Delta for The Asian Dinasty with TDA maps.
