Native Warfare Two
A random map script for The Asian Dynasties
by RF_Gandalf
Native Warfare Two is adapted from a map that was designed for use in the AgeSanctuary Smackdown series to be played in a 1vs1 'native warrior only' game. In this version, each map will contain a total of 10 native villages, 8 of which are buildable by either player and arranged in two arcs toward the center of the map, each arc a little closer to and facing one of the players. Each arc or line of villages has the same 4 randomly chosen native villages - always the same 4 in both lines. These arcs always contain one melee infantry (Inca, Mapuche, Zapotec, Maya, Nootka, Aztec, Zen, Bhakti or Shaolin), one ranged infantry (Cherokee, Cree, Seminole, Navajo, Tupi, Klamath, Carib, or Udasi), one melee cavalry (Cheyenne, Sufi or Lakota) and one ranged cavalry (Apache, Comanche or Jesuit). In addition there is another native village just toward the center from the player's start area that will be either Huron or Iroquois and so can make mantlets (and Tomahawks if Iroquois). Some of these have better units than others, some have better techs than others, but all are the same for each player each game. Some can make more than one kind of unit (Inca, Iroquois). The different village groupings can be arranged in various orders but are always a reverse mirror image for the 2 players. The following schematic shows how villages A,B,C,D, and E are arranged for player1 and player2:
P1
E
A B C D
D C B A
E
P2
Native Warfare uses randomly chosen map types or terrains from the whole AOE3 series for variety of appearance (excluding pure snow maps like the Winter form of Great Lakes) - for example the base appearance could look like Amazon, Painted Desert or Yellow River with matching treasures, forests, and fauna. This map is standard sized, an all land map containing an average number of treasures, hunts, herdables and forest. This map was designed to be as balanced as possible for a 2 player game. It was NOT designed for over 2 players and will not be properly balanced for such games. Note that based on feedback from the tournament, the number of hunts and herdables have been increased a little.
The idea for the Smackdown competition was that no other military buildings were allowed besides native TPs, no military units other than native warriors from native TPs, no military units from cards except the Native Treaties card, no military units from TC (like Minutemen) or from explorers (like pets or disciples). The Smackdown competition also did not allow players to use the native civs from TWC or French or British because of perceived advantages. If you want to play this with friends and follow these rules, this map is available for your use. Certainly you could make up your own rules as desired or play with no special rules at all.
Of course in Single Player the AI will not follow such rules, but some players might still enjoy trying this map (realize the AI does not seem to aggressively go after as many different natives as a human might). It could even be a challenge playing 'handicapped' following the rules against the AI.
To play this map, the two files (Native Warfare 2.xs and Native Warfare 2.xml) must be placed in the folder: My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\RM3. Please do not place them in the game's install folder - that will not work. This script will not work in the original AOE3 or TWC due to the new content.
Feedback appreciated!

Hello Gandalf.
I do not know whether you are still active.
I am a huge fan of your maps. Especially this one. However, I would like to know if there is any RMS in existance that produces both many trading posts as well as native tribes? Combining your "trade go nuts" with "native warfare".
Additionally I would like to know whether it is possible to include all tribes (both Lakota from the classic for instance) as well as the newer ones in the same RMS.
Could you do that? Or is it perhaps already out?
Regards Lukas. |
