Somewhere in the Alps, on the border between Switzerland and one of its less neutral neighbors, lies a tranquil mountain pass, unscathed by the ravages of war...until now.
One chilly spring dawn, the dairy pastures of Andre and Gretl Berenger slept quietly under mountain dew as military engineers from Austria-Hungary and Prussia dug out great redoubts, hauled in massive cannon, threw up rows after rows of barracks, and laid miles of razor wire across hillocks and mountain streams.
Counting a few head missing, Andre cursed under his breath and set out to find the straggling cows. One he found in obvious distress, caught in wire near the mill creek and lowing pitifully. Just then, an earsplitting boom pounded the walls of the glacial valley. By the time he'd figured out where the sound came from, the giant black iron ball had met its target, a column of camouflaged riflemen, from which emerged a chorus of agonized screams and moans. An army, cutting across his pastures!
Ducking low, forgetting about his distressed cow, Andre heard the thunder of the answering cannon from behind him...the hill overlooking his barn and milking shed. Süzer Gott, he prayed, and abandoning his cow, scurried down the hill to gather his wife and carbine and get to safety.
You and an ally start with extra resources at one end of a pass, guarded by two fixed guns. The lovely Alps are visible, but impassable. Don't miss the 2v2 multiplayer version of this map.
