The Great Dynasty

Author File Description
File Details
Game Version: AoE3+TAD
In 1644 the Ming Dynasty, under the leadership of the Chongzhen Emperor fell to a mix between a rebel army led by Li Zicheng and constant Japanese attacks in the north. In this scenario you play as Japan, storming the beaches and hopefully crushing the Ming Dynasty. Though it was Li Zicheng and his rebels who handed the final blow to the Ming Dynasty, we hope to change history a bit with the final blow coming from Japan.

This is my first scenario and I am very proud of it. I have added a Moderate version and a Hard version. I hope you enjoy, I am eager to hear reviews, good or bad!

Great game to play. Really fun!!!!! I liked the idea of taking down a great Empire. I thought a lot of work went into this bit. Well done

Balance: 3
It was good, but not perfect. There never seemed to be armies that could take out your armies, and make you start from scratch. I think there needed to be more OP (Over Powered) units for the China civ. More cavalry or flamethrowers added.

A very unique scenario. A great example of Dynasties, and also the use of Asian Units and civilizations. I thought this was a very interesting scenario to play

Map Design: 3
Map was quite good. It had Eye-Candy, and also lots of use on hills, which is quite hard to do. You did a great job of this, also including water, and naval units. Still, there wasn't enough room to build up a base, and make a good structured town. Next time, make the map a little bigger, with enough space to build up a town!

Story/Instructions: 3
Good, realistic story line. Objectives were nice and simple. Good job.

Additional Comments:
I think what could of been done is, you could of used the map revealer trigger, and shown where the 3 wonders where. It would make it a bit easier. Also, you should of used bigger armies for China, and armies that try to take down your town.

Overall, I was very happy to play this scenario. It is great, and even better as it been your very first scenario. Some ADVANCED skills were put into this. You did VERY well. I would like to see you making more scenarios, using your great design skills!!!

Yours Truly, Todd_Lang.

I don't see how it wasn't playable.

Balance: 4
I think it was balanced. I just beat it on the easier version later I will try the harder one. The Chinese start with a large fortress but you start with a very large supply of resources. I think that makes it even because you can't just immediatly storm the fortress because you are in discovery age.

Creativity: 5
The whole time I played I was thinking the little country of Japan is destroying a Chinese Empire. So I thought it was pretty original.

Map Design: 5
For your first scenario this was a very good map. I liked the Chinese base. Also the eyecandy was quite nice.

Story/Instructions: 4
I give you a 4 because it had very clear instructions. Form an alliance with monks, Destroy the wonders, kill the emporer. Very clear.

Additional Comments:
I liked the scenario very much. I hope that you will make many more scenarios. I have a question is this historically accurate or made up? Either way it is still good.

The map is definitely playable. There are some issues that have been addressed in map design and balance.

Balance: 3
Hmmmm...I wasn't a huge fan of the balance on this map. The first couple of attacks of the Chinese were ok to keep you on your toes, and then they stop for a looooooong time. Even with the limited build space I was able to age up easily without hardly any fear of attack. When it came time to attack the Chinese I was able to sit back and decimate most towers and wonders and houses from afar...even used some upgraded monitor ships.

Creativity: 3
I'm giving a straight average rating on creativity, mostly because you are basically retelling a small part of what would be an actual historical battle with the exception that the Japanese deal the mortal blow. Perhaps if you wrote up an idea of a certain Japanese soldier who is avenging his father killed by the Chinese for this particular battle or something like that.

Map Design: 3
While I do like the Chinese base, there's a few issues. The front of the base between the wall and the hill is way narrow. It was tough for the Chinese to move through there. Also the build space for the Japanese was extremely limited. And though I ended up building pretty close to the Chinese walls I got hassled very little by enemy troops. Also there was a little eye candy...dead units, but that was about it. There were elevation changes but all inside the Chinese area...and there were absolutely no treasures. The ocean only had two small areas of fish...and that was pretty weird...because it meant that you didn't forget, there was just a huge lack of ocean resources.

Story/Instructions: 3
The story was ok, but a little more creativity would have helped it a lot. The in-game instructions were decent, though the objectives didn't have any extra descriptions when you clicked on them. Other than that it was ok.

Additional Comments:
I liked this map. I think it's a great first effort! With a little tweaking, it could be a super map. Fun to burn some time on, I just wish that the AI was more aggressive...worth the DL...
