The Fall of Russia

Author File Description

Game Version: AoE3+TWC+TAD
# of Players: 4
Well, this map took me about 60 hours to complete and this was my first major scenario for AOE3. I released this right after CSO was enabled and this is by far my most well-known map so far, although I consider TFoR 2 and 3 to be better.

Anyway, this scenario revolves around four European mercenaries sent to bring down Peter the Great, who has suddenly engulfed Europe with his armies. You play the part of Ulbrecht, Oskar, Cesare, and Magnus, and you progress through the map, defeating bosses as you go. The final boss is Peter the Great himself. You also rescue nootka warchiefs as you go, although this is rather imbalanced due to limitations in editor itself, but it's a nice feature I guess.

Anyway, this map is very difficult, because more satisfaction is to be had from beating a difficult map and more teamwork is required to do so.

Info:
Players 1-4 are humans, all on team 1.
Players 5 and 6 are computers, both on team 2.
Civs don't matter.

Playability: 4
Playable on all acounts, no bugs that i know of, however it is a bit laggy to play this map

Balance: 3
Player two with the Hackepell i believe was the weakest unit to be played as, they have a moderate attack, are melee, and have weak hip. I recomend changing all melee units into ranged units, to increase this part. The overall balance was average = 3 Perhaps add a black rider, and a Manchu

Creativity: 3
Average for creativity, rpg map of hit an run, and of course a storyline of their goal

Map Design: 4
Map design was good, there were dead ends sometimes, ok eye candy not as much as zeldda, and not that many triggers, this part deserves a 3.5 but decided to give u a 4

Story/Instructions: 5
Instructions were clear including an opening cinematic, and a fictional sotryline, i love stories on cso maps, i rarely give 5s here :)

Additional Comments:
You should enter this into the cso contest, u would defintly get at least into 3rd place if not more. Many ppl have heard and played this map, as this was one of the first maps out.

Easy to play and was a very good stragey, and there was no bugs that I can see. Just a little laggy but most of the scenarioes are like that. So ill give you a 5

Balance: 4
Had 2 players having some poor unit and was easy to get the them killed.

Creativity: 4
Liked how you put more units then just having the one main unit, so that you can finish the game faster then before.

Map Design: 4
Big map I like, used a lot of mountains, walls etc...

Story/Instructions: 5
The story and Instruction was great, I could understand every thing and could tell all my friends what to do if they forgot how to play this game. =)

Additional Comments:
Great job, Have a blast playing this.

EASILY, THE BEST SCENARIO EVER :P.

Playability: 5

This game is playable for everyone because the objective is simple; don't die, and defeat the enemy units. The best part about FOR is that it is very challenging and interesting.

Balance: 5

Balance was VERYYY good. It seems like it would be a challenge to make sure you upgrade the enemy units as the game progresses to match up with the heroes who have gotten stronger throughout the game. Like you said, 60 hours went into the production of this game and most of the time i bet was spent on balancing the enemy units to match up. Also, each player gets their own unique unit who is able to contribute in their own way. The elmeti is a brutal inf killer with great hp and decent attack, while the counterpart cav, hackapell, has a high attack with low hitpoints. The host is a jaeger with Great range, which can be used to snipe units from across a mountain or attack the bosses from a safe distance. The fusilier is also a great inf unit as it has great hp and attack and can counter inf and cav with ease.

Creativity: 5

Creativity is beyond compare. This is the first game I have seen that requires so much teamwork and strategy. The units were very creative as well, just like the storyline :P.

Map Design: 5

The map design was great as well, you had shooters up on mountains, the jaeger could shoot enemies through the mountains, and there were very well placed rivers and other camps and trade posts. The bosses were also easy to spot, which made the game better.

Story/Instructions: 4

The story is great, and the instructions were explained well. The game is pretty simple, so the instructions didn't have to be too complicated. The kill count was a nice addition as well so the players knew when they were close to getting an upgrade.

Additional Comments:

This game is so good, I would probably give it a 5.5 if i could. It is a great scenario :P.

The playability of this game differs between many players. I say this because it can be easy to d/l and play right off the bat, but there are some factors that lead me to come to the conclusion that the game can scare off many people who dont want to sit down and play for 3 hrs straight.

The game's design allows for only one mistake and youre out of it for good. that can be very frustrating and may put off some people from playing it a second time.

i believe it may be nice if you made the game harder, but added some 'lives' to it also, so the people who play the full 3hr game and lose to the final boss wont get pissed.

That said, i think this CSO is better than the other 2 in that you only have a hero this game instead of a whole army. I like having one person, with little nootka every so often, than full blown army that can rap your hero, and kill him.

Balance: 3
This game was not really meant for balance, but i must say, between skill lvls the characters that you start out with seem un even. the hackapell used by a low lvl person ( i played with many of these ) dies within the first two bosses. the Jaeger, if used by a high lvl person, simply doesnt have enough atk power, and falls behind in kills easily.

Better units could have been chosen here, and modifying their atks would help a lot.

Creativity: 4
Easily one of the best RPG style games out here :)

I have played lots of these style games on ESO, and this one is by far my favorite.

I only wish you had spent more time on the triggers, adding perhaps some cutscenes, and deffinetly add some sort of lives. That is very easy to do, and wont lead the losers into frustration.

Also some way of upgrading you units instead of the basic every 50 kills or so you get a boost would be better. (mers' map is very good example of this)

Map Design: 5
The map is very nice, Everything flows nicely, the space is used well, and the curves and motion of the valley's are great. The use of arcs to add difficulty with LB/ skirm is excellent, and added a lot to game play.

However there are a few points in the game where units will get stuck in these cliffs, which is very annoying. Also, there are points where the jaeger can get a load of free kills by shooting over the cliffs into the next area, not encountered yet.

Story/Instructions: 5
The story line is great :)
This is the best story line you have created for these RPG games, and i like it very much.

Keep making these games harely, i, and a lot of other ppl really enjoy them, as it represents a quality work. :)

Additional Comments:
This is the best RPG game ive played from you, and one of the best RPG's on ESO atm.

Keep up the great work, and i hope to see a TFoR 4 someday :)

Easy to play and was a very good stragey. This was one of the first scenarios I played and I continue to play it, thus a 5

Balance: 5
Good mix of all types of units. I like how some units have to cover other. Maybe use other types of natives throughout the scenario is the only possible flaw.

Creativity: 5
Very well thought out concept for a scenario with a good 'storyline' and challenging. Takes teamwork to make it through the whole scenario.

Map Design: 5
Big map I like, used varying terrain.

Story/Instructions: 5

Additional Comments:
I really enjoyed FOR 2 & 3, but the one that kicked off the series gets the nod for the best..

Playable off course, you never have trouble with drop, lagg or anything like those issue's and all unit's functioned normally. Nothing was in the way but in one of your earlyest version I do remember getting up the cliff's. Boy they were as high as the alp's. :P Upon having played this with other's this day I do found that it can lagg and even drop, sorry I never had this before but it was pointed out at me. So I will lower this by a 1 still rocks though.

Balance: 5
Well it was balanced you had to rely on eachother to complete the objective and that was the goal for this goal all the unit's were balanced the unit's trully functioned as a team. And the enemy's well you just had to try to don't get near your counter, also a thing was you didn't kill all the unit's in one shot which I find is a good thing it make's a better and more enjoyable difficulty.

Creativity: 4
Really a well thought up idea especially the storyline, but I missed the chasing of opponent's will cannon's later made up for that I did really miss it because the team could easyly beat the opponents, but they could also hit and run and hit and run I just dislike it.

Map Design: 5
I think the cliff's and tree's were perfectly placed in the map, and the village was also nicely made, maybe you also should include a sort of russian counterstrike in which I mean they try to make a avalanche drop on you or to drop a rock bridge that will make some time into it, and beautify the terrain.

Story/Instructions: 5
The story is superb in every aspect and the minibosses had even russian style name's which also counts I find. The i9nstuction's well I got them immediatly after the cinematic kick through the Czar's minion's and then kill him, and you saved Europe. :P

Additional Comments:I was just thinking I never gave this kind of high score but it is truly worth it as the first quest-style map I ever played it has a special position in me, I find fall of russia to be unique a great storyline above most scenario's and a truly fine piece of art. Changed it because I was lead by my own eye's not my brain. (I mean in reverse) :P

The game was pretty simple to play and it said how to win it. All you had to do was follow the little trail and kill anything you saw on the way. It made you have to play as a team with some enemies like the cannons. After a while it started getting boring though and some people actually quit.

Balance: 3
Some of the characters were better than others so everyone wanted to be jaeger. And the melle units died alot when I played it. So by the end you have 2 guys left to fight the boss which is hard >.< The hackapell usually died pretty fast because its has low hp and ok attack. The elmeti was overall better than it.

Creativity: 3
The map was pretty original and had a decent storyline for it. The characters had their own names and the map itself was pretty nice. You couldve put in some little things on the way just to make it interesting. Maybe like a seperatist russian helps you by sabatoging them or something.

Map Design: 4
The map was well-made and had lots of qualitys too it. I never did like it when theres cliffs everywher just to make the path but itd be a pain to do it differently. You could put in a few more props though to make it pretty...

Story/Instructions: 4
The story was pretty simple and easy to understand. It might be better with a bit of history about the characters though. The cinematic was pretty simple. You could probably make it better with a little time. But teh instructions overall were pretty clear.

Additional Comments: I dont like some of these kind of maps because you can just shoot them and run away and just do that over and over... but it was a nice map and good job.

A longer review, hopefully ok this time?

Playability: 4
I agree with Will here, the map does seem to get laggy at points and then drops a player, which decreases your groups chances to win. It also gets boring at times, hit and run, hit and run, You need features as i stated in creativity. The boss round is also in my opinion way to hard, they have masive hip points, and if you were a melee unit charging into the boss would easily cause your death.

Balance: 2
Balance here needs much help, the melee units are the worst to be. I recommend changing all melee units into a ranged unit of some sort or increasing their strength and hip point alot. The lvls should also i believe increase their stats more, or increase their stats with fewer kills. This part deseves a 2.5, but decided to give you a 2 since i gave you a 5 on instructions part. The hackapell is usually the first to die in the game since it is the weakest. The best players to be would be p1 and p4, mainly p1 was the best.

Creativity: 3
Nothing special about this map, just an rpg map, I think that you should include more features just like zellda which i love :). This map needs a tune up in creativeness. This part is average.

Map Design: 4
Map must have taken you awhile, all it needs is much, much more eyecandy other than hills and snow. As an rpg map you should focus more on these features. The map also kinda seemed like a straight path the way through, you should include dead ends.

Story/Instructions: 5
Interesting storyline, The cinematic was on a still camera, then to the starting line, rather boring, you need to spruce up the ciiinematic someway. However the instructions were crystal clear, and the story was ok. The cinematic however needs work, this part deserves a 4.5 but i decided to give you a 5

Additional Comments:
Nice rpg map, one of the first maps ever played other than cat and mice which i am sick of. I like zellda better than this though, but this map is still fine.
