The Fall of Russia 3 - Invasion

Author File Description
Navarone
File Details
Game Version: AoE3+TWC+TAD
# of Players: 4
Storyline:
Ulbrecht and Cesare have become brutal dictators, and around the time of the Russo-Japanese war, Oskar betrays them to ally with the Japanese. You control Oskar, Emperor Meiji, and his two top generals, and work your way through the map, leveling up, and kill Cesare and Ulbrecht as the double final boss.

All main characters are cavalry but two guys have heavy infantry and two have ranged infantry, so each player must perform his role in order to win. I also made the map a little more balanced.

Info:

New additions to the map:

More balanced main characters, each having a specific role.

More bosses and minibosses.

I added in the cinematic again as more people seemed to want it than not.

A double final boss! Oh yeah!

Obviously, an all-new map with all-new characters, enemies, etc.

I consider this one to be better than my previous two, and by popular demand the opening cutscene is back! Information on how to play is in the objectives tab.

Players 1-4 are humans, all team 1.
Players 5 and 6 are computers on team 2.
Civs don't matter.

Run-time is approximately 1.5 hours.

Pretty minor lagg, i believe that u should add a flash to the unit when there hip reaches below 10%. You should also add in messages that come in when u lvl up

Balance: 4
The heroes were
balanced, p1-3 had the same, and p4 had more attack but less hip, so that was fine. However i believe that u should remove p3's archers, as they can go invisible.

Creativity: 3
Another rpg map of hit and run, with its own storyline. Average, nothing new and nothing bad.

Map Design: 4
Hills and cliffs, but yet again no props and stuff like that. Me and my friends playing the map all agree that u ahould allow hc shipments, so that the hero fo p1-3 can get reinforcements, and that when they lvl up they gain age so that they can get stronger men to send, i would give this a 3.5 but gave u a 4.

Story/Instructions: 4
Instructions were clear, storyline was a bit told, however it was kinda vauge, should add an opitional feature to learn the whole story. I also recomend adding music during the cinematic.

Additional Comments:
Overall pretty another nice rpg game, however i belive that this is better than #2, and kinda the same as #1.

Lag is minimal even with the added cinematic. No obvious bugs. I kinda feel like this is the last in the series, though, because truly it's somewhat the same as the previous two, and doesn't get any better with the replaying.
I don't feel it's necessary to add a kill counter, or any other notice that you're leveling up. Just hit the alt key once in a while and you're set. Yes, I am aware that other RPG designers use it, it's a kindness, but not absolutely needed. You will notice your progress as more and more units become 1-hits although this scenario has a steep curve once you start killing more minibosses.

Balance: 3
Can't argue with 3 Daimyos, they are basically balanced. A problem comes up with Player 3. Why Shinobi? Why only one player gets stealth units? Ordinarily I'd expect "so people will work together as a team" but what if Player 3 drops or is eliminated? If you are going to give stealth to one person, you should make it available to all (maybe not at start, but somewhere along the way). Also, Oskar is simply outclassed. He doesn't have the same ranged armor as his fellows, nor are his supporting units all that great, although they are the only ranged gunpowder units on the team.

I'd like to give this a higher score, but when you design a team RPG, you must design with the expectation of a possible situation where all but one player drop out. I can understand this is supposed to be more challenging but it's no fun when you have only melee units facing a large number of ranged infantry perched on walls or behind cliffs. Some crossover is necessary to let all players have an equal shot. For a change, mix up the rescues so that Player 1 gets a Shinobi once in a while, and Player 2 or 3 gets a few strelets. And Player 4 needs a second look at balancing. Hackapells are great, but compare the armor and consider granting some sort of additional resistance.

Taking the Fall of Russia story and matching it to a historic event is a creative way to introduce TAD civs to the Russian Front. The story is pretty much the same though, you battle bosses until you reach the end boss. This scenario didn't break significant new strategic ground or introduce any new token rewards or economic systems. If you're looking for a very straightforward ending to a simple heroic tale, this is the map.

Perhaps at some point you can go back and sketch in some additional objectives, side quests, bonus techs, hidden areas, and triggered boss abilities for your TFoR series.

Map Design: 4
A little bigger and more ambitious than TFoR 2, this map has some actual pirate ships on the rivers to make crossings more of a challenge. I like the winding layout of this one better too. It really seems to be a long journey rather than separate areas to exploit, clean out, and pass by. As far as eyecandy, the occasional village is bigger and has villagers working (although they don't seem to build anything or foster the enemy war effort).

I'm truly disappointed that the Trade Route had no posts, nor was there any other way of exploiting it for flavor or some strategic utility. To me, seeing the empty Trade Route on a giant sprawling map like this was like paying $250 for season tickets to the Red Wings and then having the league go on strike after the second game of the season. If there is one thing you could do to be in position to get a 5 on your mapwork, give that route a purpose, make it an integral and strategic part of the game. While you're at it, do something with all that lovely water. Mind the lag, but I bet you could put something big and nasty in the river guarding a treasure ship or ferry ride to get to a hidden objective.

Story/Instructions: 4
The storyline, as I've said before, is pretty clear. The return of the cinematic and the instructions made for a smooth start, even for the kid who kept typing in the game window "yeah i know its a shoot'em but what do we DO????" More elaborate instructions and background aren't really needed to get off the ground with this, and you don't even need to know who Cesare or Ulbrecht are, or used to be, to know that they are bad-ass and should not be taken lightly.

Additional Comments:
If you manage to wade through my long winded evaluation, you are a trooper and deserve an extra point somewhere in your review.

My review for Navarone’s Fall of Russia 3 Invasion

Playability: 4

Little Lag, but I can deal with it. Need to add something to tell you that your main unit is low on health and need’s to be pulled back. Great bosses that we needed to fight against for are challenge. Good game to work as a team and show off your leadership and show

Balance: 4

All the Main units are balanced and civ’s If I had to make some changes I would do is add some resources so you can make a Little Base and a limit on how much units you can make out of your base.

Creativity: 4

Great Idea for the TAD version. Like the Japan was the one that always does stuff. Should add a time period when more units from your point in the game so that you can have more units helping and you can not lose more and more.

Map Design: 4

Great map, add water that had boats in and had the feeling that Japan is there. Taking over the water and land. What I would do is make A big hill so that you feel that you are no one flat land that hole time your playing.

Story/Instructions: 4

Great Story/Instructions better then the 2nd one that didn’t have it. Should add some music when you get a boss or to a big battle.

Additional Comments:
Great map, just add some more stuff and it should be a great
