Hi, I'm SharpShooter99: Creator in 2006's Omaha and Utah Beach and the AoE3 WW2 Campaign. I've come back to create a new and complete campaign: The Great War. Check out the thread for my Campaign here: http://aoe3.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=ct&f=12,36076,,10
World War One left France in a state of shock--never wanting to join another massive war again. They said this battle was the reason why France pulled out so quickly from World War Two, not even giving a try to mobilize their forces against the Blitzkrieg army. France lost so much men in World War One, that they cannot afford to lose more people in this Second World War and gave in to Hitler. Creating NAZI France and Vichy France.
The Battle of Verdun is considered the greatest and lengthiest in world history. Never before or since has there been such a lengthy battle, involving so many men, situated on such a tiny piece of land. The battle, which lasted from 21 February 1916 until 19 December 1916 caused over an estimated 700,000 casualties (dead, wounded and missing). The battlefield was not even a square ten kilometres. From a strategic point of view there can be no justification for these atrocious losses. The battle degenerated into a matter of prestige of two nations literally for the sake of fighting......
France did win this battle. |

This has been Updated--Thanks. Hopefully it'll work.
Do not give this a low review based on unbalanced forces and a "impossible scenario". This is beatable--I only beat it three times. It's that hard. Try to protect your falconets and culverins. [Edited on 12/03/08 @ 12:36 AM]

Wow this was not an easy scenario. I almost beat this thing however just at the end a bunch of grenadiers flanked me, and got my coulervans (I probably misspelled that:P). So nothing was stopping the artillery from just mowing down my last few infantry. Luckily I actually remembered to save. So later I will try again. |

Hey, great job. And if you have the time after part 2 is finished, I would love to sea the British invasion of the Ottoman Empire in the world's first amphibious assault. I forget the actual name of the battle (It was near the Dardanelles though). This was also in WWI.
I would make it, but my Scenario design skills aren't nearly what yours are, and I don't want to take an idea that fits your Great War campaign so nicely![Edited on 12/06/08 @ 09:14 PM]

Thanks for the review.
I'm surprised you beat it already. And about the playability deduction--I thought it was going to be hard enough to keep you busy and not bored(despite the fact that you might have to replay it again to beat it) but that's why I added the artillery and gas attack effects to entertain the player while he's defending.
And also the trenches being clogged. At first they wouldn't be clogged because your still trying to develop a strategy. They will come with cannons and just mow down your guys in the trenches so it won't be that congested. But since you beat it and have constructed a strategy, you conserved your troops to a certain population for the trenches to get overloaded.
And yeah, about the Ottoman attack (Battle of Gallipoli) I'm already working on it but thanks for your thoughts in helping me with my campaign!
It's not really done yet--no where close but I did add some eye candy. Look at these screen shots:

This is my comment in Ypres and Somme Thread:
I'm pissed at these people doing stupid stuff on my map like spawn killing and complaining that they don't attack. Well duh, your freakin' spawn killing while they're supposed to come to the trenches and then attack you. Omg, this is like the same reason why I quit 2 years ago--a bunch of stupid people that said stuff to me and the people who worked with me on my WW2 Campaign. If I encounter another primitive and unintelligent player on a "strategy" game--then I'm leaving.
Because then there's no point in making a campaign that is this serious; which is recreating such a horrible war(all wars are just senseless slaughter for a greater good but can we humans (calling ourselves intelligent beings) surpass this primitive way of solving problems) but these kids are like taking cheap shortcuts without even thinking about the setting of the scenario and making connections to real life and society. Battle of Verdun, most horrific place to be for a Frenchman. Thats the bad thing about technology these days--degrading the human conscious where we think almost everything is simplistic and just a joke; simply for recreation and relaxation (Since when killing people makes you calm down--be the guy in Virginia Tech that shot the place up, including a Holocaust Veteran).
A quote by me: "It is a shame that our fathers went through Hell on Earth while their children, us, are enjoying their horrors of war in a virtual world."
Play games on how it meant to be played--don't do cheap crap like rushing or spawn killing. That's just low as if you were a hangman during the previous centuries.
And about creativity "its just spawning and attacking"
So does this mean your criticizing the real battle? Are you simply making a parody about the French's experience where they had to defend Verdun for eleven months straight against German attacks and later fight back and winning the battle. (they did not win by spawn killing or doing some gay cheap crap)
Story not told in depth? How about you take a history class on World War One? Do I really have to lecture? Why not read the little text in the thread or the description before you download? Why not? Or why do I even have to type it up? Scenarios do not have to fully present something so obvious that is shown in a textbook.
That's also another reason why I stopped playing shooters 6 months ago.
Now if your going to keep taking cheap steps in life and the virtual world, then your going no where in life. You will not grasp the maturity concept. And its also about time that we moved on--its the 21st Century.
I might as well cancel this whole Campaign.
As_Saffah: "I'm just now reading the book behind the movie Passchendaele which is supposed to be out now any day. Fighting under these types of conditions is indeed horrible and the strategies in the scenario should be able to reflect that."
And no, I'm not going to patch it up because I rather let people patch themselves up so they won't make stupid decisions in reality and the virtual world. I'm tired of babysitting the ignorance.[Edited on 12/07/08 @ 11:48 PM]

Yuttho,
Why do you want to quit? It seems that 95% of all comments regarding your scenarios, either here or in the forums, are all positive.
Most of us want you to keep designing... [Edited on 12/08/08 @ 12:43 AM]

dude its called bugs, for example if you make a game and give them rules (such as cheat codes) that are not enforced, do you think they will use them or not? It is the job of the maker to enforce them, and think like the player, fix anything that is not suppose to occur. IT is the job as the tester to test the game for bugs so that the maker can fix it.
Creativity: I am just saying it is a basic concept, for example if a person makes a movie based on a guy who just sit in his house and surfed the internet all day and was based on a true story do u think it will score high in creativity?
Story: It could be told in the cinematic more in depth, such as a longer intro showing deaths and fighting, why germans are atatcking for that city, why do what they did.
Rating: dude its a 4.2, thats good..
P.S I believe that you should continue makin scens[Edited on 12/08/08 @ 12:51 AM]
