After The Italy and Africa MOD, I am proud to introduce the ITALY AND AFRICA EXPANSION. This mod has finally turned into an expansion, with the addition of the Zulu civilization. This expansion pack will lead you through the secrets and misteries of Africa, and on the other hand, it will fascinate you with the renaissance warfare. There are five new civs: Padanians, Papal State, Mali Empire, Ethiopians and Zulu, each one historically accurate. Moreover, you are provided of detailed Africa Random Maps and African natives, who provide rare resources to increase your wealth. Please download and enjoy this great mod, it really took me a lot to achieve it. Ratings and comments are greatly appreciated.
1*PADANIANS
Padanians are the inhabitants of northern Italy, or rather Padania. Padania was historically divided in many lordships as the Duky of Milan, the County of Savoy, but above all, the Most Serene Republic of Venice. The scenarios I'm planning to make, will talk about an imaginary story in which Venice expands his colonial empire in Africa and unites Padania under a great confederation. Padanians are a merchantilist civilization, they ca build bank and build an heavy warship, the Galleass. Padanian Warriors and Venetian Infantry grant a strong infantry potential.
2*MALI EMPIRE
The Mali Empire was a great and extremely wealthy West-African Empire. His King, called Mansa, was one of the richest men in the known world; the most known Mansa is Mansa Musa, whi organised a memorable peregrinage to Mecca. There were three giant gold mines in the Mali Empire, whose gold was sold in Europe. The malinese army became a powerful war machine, and the Empire expanded itself up to become larger than the ancient Roman Empire. The Mali Empire can build the Temple, a special building which trains african mercenaries, healers and has special abilities. The Mali empire is probably the best civilization at gathering coin, since they can build mining camps which increase the nearby gatherers workrate. Villagers train faster.
3*PAPAL STATE
The Papal State was the papal dominion located in central Italy. It hasn't a very strong army, it counts mostly on mercenaries, as Swiss Guards, terrible against cavalry. The Papal State cannot train grenadiers, but Hoop Throwers, which you can upgrade into Inquisitors, deadly against infantry. An Interesting new Papal State unit it the Bishop, who is stronger than the priest and can also convert guardians.
4*ETHIOPIANS
The history of Ethiopia goes back to the times of legendary King Solomon, whose son Menelik is told to have brought the Ark of Alliance to Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Empire was then believed by the Europeans to be the golden Kingdom of the legendary Priester John. This christian ortodox Kingdom had to fight many moslem invaders, protecting its ancient traditions.
In my MOD, the Ethiopians reflect Menelik II’s kingdom: they are an advanced civilization which knowS cannons and gunpowder well. Cavalry is excellent, infantry is slightly weaker, but Royal Guards can reveal a terrible opponent. The Ethiopians have their own outposts, which become more powerful as you advance to the next age.
5*ZULU
The Zulus created a huge Empire in Southern Africa during the XIX century, under the leadership of their most famous king Shaka. He revolutionated the south-african warfare by introducing the human-shaped shields and the ilkwa, a shorter spear for better hand-to-hand fighting. After Shaka's conquest, the Zululand covered a wide area, wich included the Shona territories to the north. In the game, the Zulus are very different from other civilizations. They don't advance in ages, but new technologies and units become available after researching special technologies at the Zulu War Hut. You can't train single units, but mixed armies, which are available from the home city. (you need at least 1 available shipment to create armies) Zulu villagers are faster and stronger.

I downloaded this mod some weeks ago, and I liked it, though it still has some bugs and issues:
I tried playing with the Zulues and, as many have said here before, I couldn't build the warhut so I couldn't age up, I liked the way of how they could have some infinite shipments, the problem though is that eventually you run with a unit limit and your shipments get cancelled that and, as the only way to get armies is through shipments, they get slowed down quite a bit as you have to wait between shipments to amass your armies.
Maybe you could modify them so they accumulate XP faster (like spanish) or you could give them a building that produces XP, though I don't know if that's possible. Also, it would be nice if they get more shipments, specially more military shipments.
Padanians: This is the civilization that I liked the most of the five you created, the problem they have is that they are too similar to the dutch, even better actually as they do not use population slots (another problem), so they don't feel original enough, also I think you may have too many units to choose from in the barraks, rodeleros look unnecesary having the padanian warriors (and boneguards) and the other unit in the barraks couldn't even be seen.
The partisan also I think is too powerful, it can kill alone an entire army planting a small bomb, so it kind of disbalances the game.
The fact that you could build a lot of factories and fortresses with the builder (and major) also made them too unbalanced.
I think you had just too many things going on here.
Also the units on the Salloon were so cheap (they didn't even use population again) that most of the time I didn't even need to create padanian units.
The Papal state felt weird to start with an explorer and a bishop, but I suppose that's fine. They also had a cart and a hot air balloon (that couldn't be seen), I think it also had some more units that couldn't be seen, but otherwise fine I guess, having harquebusiers and crossbowmen felt kind of redundant.
The main issue I had with the Mali empire is that it falled in the 1600s, so it barely touches the timestamp that's present in AOE3, I wonder is you could replace them with the Ashanti Empire instead, they existed during this time and actually managed to win a few wars against the english colonizers (also commerced with gold with the Mali, so they were a rich nation also) just a thought though, it is your mod anyways.
I didn't play with the ethiopians much.
Well, that's a quick review of your mod, overall a great job, I'd really like to see it on asian dinasties. |
