End of an Empire

Author File Description
Goblin5 This is a large scenario where you have been shipwrecked on the wrong side of an island. You need to follow you "Gunny" to regain your troops, build a village for support and attack the French. I tried to keep things to a min to keep the game fast, but slower comps may lag.
Hope you enjoy "The Old World-End of an Empire" version 1.0

Remember to listen to your Gunny!

alphonze Just wanted to let you know this game was made for me. It did take awhile and I did have a blast.

Map Design5.0
Playability: 4
No lags, everything worked. Maybe a tad too easy to build up an immense amout of resources.

Balance: 4
Can be tough in parts if you don't get enough men in certain places, nothing that made you frustrated.

Creativity: 4
Nice idea. Not a lot of triggers. The "end game" is a bit disappointing. Overall it has a "nice" feel to it.

Map Design: 5
Really good, a few things I've not seen before.
No "lazy" areas, everywhere has been planned and thought about.

Story/Instructions: 2
This is what lets this scenario down, you never know what you are supposed to be doing or how you can win the game. "Gunny" doesn't say a lot.

Additional Comments:
Overall a good scenario, well worth it if you fancy a couple of hours of beating up the French. More time spent creating better instructions would make this a great scenario.

thanks for the comments.
I am reworking the end game triggers and plan to rerelease this with a series of other Gunny based ones as a block sometime in the next few months.
-more comments are always welcome

I realize that some people like real long games. I don't mind them when they end as they should but this didn't. After over three hours of gameplay, when I finally finished, the game just went back to main menu. GRRRR!

Far too many spawns of too large of a number of troops to make it all the more frustrating when the game doesn't end as it should. Back off the numbers a bit and it will be just as interesting. Example: Don't really need 20-25 organ guns at the Indian village. Computer doesn't need 25-30 musketeers every time i blow up a TC( or whatever i've blown up to cause it).

Creativity: 3
Some creative ideas here but they need a little fine tuning. Again, too many units pop up out of nowhere.

Map Design: 3
Map design was Grade A !

Story/Instructions: 2
Gunny must have developed a case of laryngitis because he hardly gave me anything to go on.

Additional Comments:
Work on the triggers a little bit. You've got quite a few and with such a weak editor it can produce problems. Cut the spawning troops at least 1/2. Where did all the resources come from? I blew up the factories and the settlers weren't working yet Indians and troops kept coming and I must have blown up 10 capitals!

Playability:-- 1
Most triggers not working as they should or not there at all. Game is long and at times boring with very little action unless instigated by the human player. Most computer player action comes from continuous spawning in the Native villages run by French. Ending was very frustrating!!
Balance:-- 2
I played the game on higher level and blasted through fairly easily. It was just a long drawn out affair. Built a dock on the cliffs and completely destroyed seaside villages but computer kept building back. Finally put a settler ashore and built a wall so computer settlers would not build anymore.
Creativity:-- 3
I believe that you started with some good ideas but got carried away with the number of units the computer built. I had been hoping to take a look at the stats at the end but the finish was all screwed up so I don't know how many units I blew away.
Map Design:-- 5
Very, very nicely set out. The dry dock area and the tracks set up around the factories was sweet.
Story/Instructions:-- 1
What little instruction and comments made by Gunny come from the sewer and are unnecessarily vulgar and offensive. They add nothing constructive to the game.
Additional Comments: There is a tutorial on scenario design explaing how to use triggers and getting them to work as you desire. Check it out and update your trigger works and I'll return with a new and most likely better review scoring. Also, take a quick look at the review guidelines and see what you're aiming for.

Thanks to all for the comments. The good and bad only help to make these kind of things better. As far as anyone being offended by the language used by characters in the game thats fine I can always post a movie style rating for my scenarios to warn people.

Too long especially considering the end does not do anything but return you to the menu

Balance: 2
If not for the continuous production of natives there would not have been any balance whatsoever.

Creativity: 2
Not much new here

Map Design: 3
Nothing new except areas around the warehouses was very innovative.

Story/Instructions: 1
Nothing here to use a 'guide' as "Gunny" was suppposed to be.

Additional Comments:Remember... and looking at many of the reviews throughout this site should be reminder enough... young children play these games. You don't need rating 8-), just clean up the language, please.

benbow I started to ask myself if some ratings posted here are a childish war against a different style
of scenarios. Try to be fair !
