The Sun Rises on the Ottoman Empire

Author File Description
Dark_Jedi06 The Rise and Fall of the Sultan
Scenario 1: The Sun Rises on the Ottoman Empire

It is a time of turmoil. The rule of the Seljuk Turks over what is now Turkey has come to an abrupt end at the hands of the Mongolians. Various emirates have been spawned by the fall of the Seljuk's and the region is up for grabs. At the moment, the Ottoman Turks located in the region of Anatolia are poised to take up a powerful position in the aftermath of the Seljuk downfall...

Control a small Ottoman colony in the western region of Anatolia. Your are surrounded by 3 other Turkish Emirates in an all out free for all. Certain units are disabled and can only be accessed by completing objectives and you can not advance beyond the Fortress Age. The terrain and locations of enemy colonies allows for multiple strategies, such as conquering the Black Sea to the north before moving inland.

*Day/Night Cycle
*Home City customized for the scenario
*An opening screen that details your mission
*Detailed landscape

This is only the first scenario in a campaign that will hopefully be quite lengthy, I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did making it. Don't forget to leave your honest opinions and constructive critcism.

SharpShooter99 Dont forget, the Ottoman Empire fell after WW1
Nacaz2 the first minute lagged very much, i resigned.
i dunno why it lagged a lot, possibly something with the map?
arad441 Well, the Ottoman Emp. starting falling after the siege of Viena (1529) when Suliman was defeated by the Fernando I of Germany. In 1571 the ottomans lost in Lepanto and in 1683 they tried again in Viena, but lost in the hand of Leopordo I.

Map Design3.0
Playability: 1
Horrible lag coupled with no triggers makes for a very bad game. I was unable, though I had sufficient resources, to advance past the Colonial Age. The computer players weren't either so I didn't feel so bad. I got the wood for getting to the Fortress level but no ship because there was no flag placed. Second time I tried, I got the 5 Albus guns but still did not advance. I hate, HATE, HATE (!!) games where you have to resign in order to finish!!!

Balance: 2
Despite these problems and the fact that everyone else had Albus guns... until I built a dock and a galleon... it was still pretty easy to win.

Creativity: 3
The thinking behind this is creative though belonged in AOE2. By the time period of AOE3, the Ottomans were drooping.

Map Design: 3
Nice design but the reason for the lag "could be" too many trees and sliver mines. Defy "Sierra Club" and the "Earth First" group and remove much of the forests and place fewer 'gold' mines instead of having 'silver' if your attempt is to give pleany of resource.

Story/Instructions: 4
Nicely laid out story but without the triggers, I was only able to complete the secondary objective and even though I removed every single trace of the three other groups (Is that what you meant by assimilate???), the primary objective was not completed.

Thanks alot for the honest comments mrrags, somehow I managed to miss all of those problems when I play tested it. >_>

I'm currently working on version 2.0, hopefully I can fix the lag issue and add a few more triggers...

johnboyz I hate to sound like a broken record but I had the same problems as the others with the lag. I timed the game and for every 20 seconds on the 'game clock'; 60 seconds in 'real time' had past.

Mrrags could be right about the trees. I just did a game with a similar lag but when I removed many of the trees, the lag problem disappeared.

The game needs triggers or it can't end.

Ok, I've submitted a revised version. Among other things I've:

-Deleted nearly 3/4's of the trees
-Eliminated many of the silver mines
-Fixed the Fortress Age advancement problem
-The scenario is now winnable (:p)
-Hopefully added some more difficulty
-Changed the texture of the land to be a single texture with a few differences here and there

I'm not sure about the lag problem, but I'm pretty sure I fixed everything else. Next time, I won't let this happen when I release a scenario.

Also, I wouldn't mind a few more actual reviews. :) Thanks again for the in depth comments mrrags. I'm not sure if the file's been uploaded yet, though...

sentry41 Up top it says "updated 2/21/06" but I downloaded the file today and tried it out and had the same difficulties, so I'm thinking it didn't really update.

I did give it a try though and I liked the size and terrain of the map. Like I said though, same problems with lag, not being able to go to the fortress ages, etc.

So, we'll see if it updates and try it again. I look forward to giving it a go.
efe122 when will u release ur next scenario
