Author File Description
Shrink Teams start on either side of the map, with the ocean to the west and south west.
There are always three trade posts: one for each team and one positioned in the middle, next to a Nootka or Cree village; a hot spot for combat on the map.

Each player begins with a caravel in the sea - a good ship for exploring the coastline and gathering resources.

Snow-laden cliffs jut out into the ocean as well as wrap round a resource heavy region to the east, while also providing a natural wall for your troops. The only gold mine and Lakota village rest on a small island off the coast.

Plentiful Caribou and Musk Ox roam the snowy hills and forests, while the sea is littered with fish and whales.

It is fully possible that there are not enough silver mines for a full game. If this is the case, use the evenly spread whales of the ocean.

Historical and geographical inaccuracies were purposely added for reasons of fun.

The LOAD SCREEN uses the descriptive text from the Yukon random map. For Alaska, the text is inaccurate, but I have not discovered an effective way to change it. Please just ignore it, and bear in mind the above description when playing.

The map is not designed to be amazing, or a technical wonder. it's supposed to be another random map which fits into the library of ES random maps. I hope to have achieved this.

(Map based off the New England code)

A great snowy map that can be recommrnded for Standard Map.Teams starting closely and natives are on same place like on yukon but since the total map is changed, thats unnoticable.Amazing geography preciseness gives this map special feeling. But this map has its down sides too.On example, I didn't notice many gold mines, but alaska is known by large gold amount. Some players have resources to far.Natives are to close. But in whole look, this game deserves rating 4-Exelent.
rakovsky Hello! Your random map for Alaska sounds really cool, and I would love to play it. The period of exploration of Alaska is a romantic one.

Unfortunately I can't get the map to appear in my list of maps in the game, even after I have installed it. Part of the problem could be that I downloaded the game online through a company called STEAM that Microsoft sells some of its games through.

The instructions for your map say to
I don't have a folder like that on my computer. However, the closest thing I have is an extension saying:
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Empires III\bin\art\ui\random_map
that has .ddt files from all the other maps already in that folder. But copying the file to that location did not make the map appear in my list of maps inside the game. What do you think?

rakovsky Hello! I liked the map. It's a neat and Unique time in colonial history when the Russians discovered Alaska, and the map would make a good base for a scenario.

I loved the map. I think the Caravel was a cool idea.

One accuracy problem was that it has Lakotas, but those were Plains Indians.

It would be better if I were placed at random places in the map, instead of always the lower right. And I wish I could pick to be in the large map even if I had two players. That would require two maps. But the game has, for example, a LARGE Siberia and a regular one, so it should be possible.

If one side has more gold than another, then it's not perfect balance. You could make up for it by giving the one with less gold more resources.

Good job.

I'm having the same problem you had, the map not showing up in my Custom Maps menu. How did you make it work?
rakovsky Sunset,

There is a box to check for Custom Maps in that menu.
