I have been playing AOE3 AD for a while with no mods and I was looking for something to make the AI smarter and this does the trick. They build walls really well and they don't get stuck in boats as often.
The enemy is 10000 times easier though. You have to play them on expert just to get a challenge. I play them on hard and they never even make it to the 4th age. They usually stay in age 2 or 3 while I advance very slow to the 5th age.
I still hate how stupid they are when trying to cross a river, they get like 10 boats and ram each other forever and never battle.
I really do enjoy it though :D Thanks for your hard work! |

ok... why is everyone telling me the AI is easier... there has been plenty of work done to make it harder...
aLEN, your the AI expert, what is going on?
could it be because i made ageing up more expensive and the AI doesn't keep enough resources to age up?
and if so, can you point me the codes which tells the AI how many resources to keep for ageing up?
i thought i found and modified them, but it seems it didn't work out well...
xfactornos, thank you for your rating, and an even bigger thanks for telling me the AI problem. work is being done to fix this, hold on tight people.
oh, one question though, is the AI ALWAYS weak, or only some times? because in this case i know for sure what's the problem...[Edited on 07/03/11 @ 08:32 PM]

well, i believe that the ai is really tough, it masses troops effectively and does work together as a team well, i dont think any other rts has such a sophisticated ai now :DDD
Then again, i did reduce the aging cost somewhat, and added more research points to make it take longer to age up.
this is how i configured mine:
-age1: 1000 food research points +0
-age2: 2000 food, 1500 gold research points +10
-age3: 2500 food, 2000 gold research points +15
-age4: 4500 food, 4000 gold research points +20
and for the natives:
-age1: 800 food research points +10
-age2: 1500 food, 1200 gold research points +15
-age3: 2000 food, 1800 gold research points +20
-age4: 4000 food, 3000 gold research points +25[Edited on 07/04/11 @ 02:33 AM]

well it looks good, but i see one huge problem...
you made age 1, which is actually age 2 (age 4 is age 5), less expensive for natives. even if it has a longer research time, the natives have that council member which makes ageing up faster. now, i think that at least age 2 should be the same for all, because natives are not THAT weak, and if they age up faster and easier this would mean your defeat...
i will edit mine also.
in other news, i will release a new version soon, and though the AI looks fine to me, i did modified it a bit and i hope it's right for everyone now. but the biggest new feature of this new version is the slow auto healing for all units (except heavy artillery, wagons and ships).

i just have a game on expert with natives and Chinese as an enemy and i cant say it was easy - they attack me all the time and i lost both of my forts !

case closed, thank you aLEN. i for one didn't had problems with the AI either, but others say they do.
now, i need a little help from you guys, my community. i want to add mercenaries for the natives, trainable at the native embassy, but it seems natives CAN'T have mercenaries... it simply doesn't work, everything is put where it should be but they don't appear.
i need to know why and how can i fix it.
the one who finds the problem gets a big and official THANKS!
PS: if i get this to work, i will make it possible once again to train artillery in blocks of 5, like before the mod.
i know how much i am being sweared upon and i admit it wasn't the best idea (the artillery training thing), but at that time i thought it was a great way to slow down rushing... i am willing to reverse it if SOMEONE helps me out with the mercenaries for natives thing, which i also tried to add a long time ago but couldn't. this time i am not willing to let it go so easily...
now please, someone out there who is good in aoe3 modding and wants to help, enlighten us![Edited on 07/04/11 @ 04:03 PM]

HH , i see you bumped at a same wall i did some time ago . I did try but at the end i give up and made a simple solution ; i made a few merc units and added them in game and that worked . I am pretty sure you will found solution....if you fail just do what i have done and that's it .
And about block train.....I liked the idea but my friends didn't ( actually there was a quite "reaction" when they spotted that :D ) so not only i revert it back - 5 unit at a time but they also demand to "make up" for that :D :D so at the end i made a tech with a "PlayerSpecificTrainLimitPerAction" ( 10 ) but only in age5 and it cost a LOT ( i put it in Capitol ) so now again everyone is happy and satisfied.... |
