1v1 Random map, First 1v1 with Japan, 4th overall rated game with Japan

Texas was a terrible random map to be drawn out. Russians get 2 blockhouses at the start plus a water map would have been my preference (for the 3, 5, 8 fishing boat cards). Very scarce treasures also slowed me down.

I do not play 1v1's very often, let alone Russians. So I don't know how good of a Russia player he was. The basics of what I do is try for 15 musks at 6 min (easier on water maps and maps with treasures). This is usually ample to stop some of the quicker rushes (german tower rush).

I forgot I put up a rice paddy but quickly realized my mistake. I also had a food shortage which I quickly fixed. On any other map I would have probably beat him on the rush. Also I finally decided to burn his forward blockhouse at 25 min XD

muzzl Russia was awful this game, there were long periods of time when they forgot to build settlers, you had more than twice as many for a long time. He did get one thing right over you though, which is that he switched unit choice when he saw what you were making. Those strelets hard counter the musketeers. Once he started making them you could have tried getting some horsemen, they are much better against strelets.

Speaking of horsemen, he made a bunch of his own, even when he saw that you were massing musketeers, which is a dangerous move by itself, but it could be ok if he stays away from them and just sticks to raiding your villagers, but he does a pretty miserable job of that, for the most part he tried to attack your buildings with them got them killed. You both seem to have a bad habbit of attacking buildings when you aren't going to be able to do much damage to them and you both lose a ton of units with no benefit that way. You should hunt for villagers instead, only attack a building if you have a good chance of finishing it. This is why you shouldn't be afraid to build your temples out in different places in the map. For the most part it'd be a bad move for him to try to attack them, and if you are watching your map it'll help warn you when a raid is coming. I'd recommend building houses out in the middle of the map to any race, Japan especially.
