~~~ ATTENTION! ~~~
For a newer version of this mod check out the featured blog:
http://impmod.blogspot.ro/
Every version of this mod should be installed on a fresh, unmodified version of 'Age of Empires 3 The Asian Dynasties' (must also include 'The War Chiefs' and all games must be updated to the latest versions, v1.03 for TAD)! Mostly recommended only if you have any kind of errors or other problems.
If you have problems with missing models, sounds or buildings icons then try to re-install 'The War Chiefs'. It has some installation glitches.
And if that doesn't work then find out how to fix it at the end of this description.
If you have problems with resources not being displayed correctly in the UI please go to "Options" and press the "Restore Defaults" button, and if the game crashes on startup try making it run in Windows XP compatibility mode.
Please do not 'update' the mod with any rip-offs or other modifications from mods 'designed' to work with this one.
Select the directory where the game is installed, default location is:
/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age Of Empires III/
If you plan on installing the mod over the Steam version, use this path for the installer:
/Steam/steamapps/common/Age of Empires 3/bin/
-----------------------------------------------
This mod started out as a 'Buildings Mod', with the objective to add more nice and useful buildings to the game, but many more improvements where needed and many ideas where coming so the 'Improvement Mod' was born.
For now, this mod tries to upgrade the game with small, big and necessary tweaks, changes and adds to make the gameplay more interesting, fun and challenging. All known bugs from the original game have been fixed.
More great things to come!
Requirements: This mod is only for TAD but requires AOE3+TWC+TAD 1.03
HOW TO FIX 'THE WAR CHIEFS' CONTENT NOT APPEARING IN 'THE ASIAN DYNASTIES'!
As some of you know, TWC has some installation problems and does not register completely in the Windows registry.
I have made a registry file which fixes this problem, no matter of the Windows version.
The file needs to know the exact install location of your game, the default one is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III
If you have the game installed in this location then just go ahead and double click the file, then select 'Yes' when asked.
If you have the game installed in a different place then you will have to edit the file your self, very simple.
Just right click the file and click 'Edit'. Notepad will be opened and besides other things you will have this line:
"SetupPath"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Games\\Age of Empires III\\"
Replace this with your install path for AoE3, for example:
"SetupPath"="D:\\Games\\Age of Empires III\\"
Save it and run the file selecting 'Yes' when asked.
You can download the file from here:
I know the US explorer is undergoing changes but I thought I'd point this out, the area damage can damage trees, nature and your own units/buildings... The same thing happens when you upgrade the Aztec explorer.
I also noticed that Cooper doesn't gain extra health/strength every time you age unlike other explorers... Is this intentional? (He's pretty crappy even with Knighthood and Peerage)
see guys, i told you it's hard as **** to add a completely new explorer...
the worst part is that i can't change any of those things... they are hardcored in the game...
but, as usual, i will try to find a solution...
----------------------------
you know what, ignore that ^^...
i actually fixed them both:)
damn, i'm good...:D
----------------------------
alright guys, after a lot of work, the new version is done!
check out the commander and the other things and report back.
i assure you that you will not want to go in a battle without the commander...[Edited on 10/13/11 @ 07:07 PM]
"bugs":
1. The post office unit (holding flag) can't board ships
2. Black powder wagon says building*7 (however, there is no bonus against buildings I believe)
3. Pil card ToolTip says sends 2 pilg(when it sends 5)
4. Sioux card that enables arsenal upgrades does not show cavalry upgrades anymore (my guess is because you included the siege unit in the tep
I have a few requests this time (small changes), hope you think my requests aren't too stupid :P
1. Musks really seem out of place in the US -.-... they revolted from England...
2. Minuteman don't give xp, lose health, and the houses are more expensive (no free unit now)
Could you make minuteman give xp+not lose health? since they can't be upgraded, I really don't think they are overpowered (in terms of dmg in age2) I would prefer using colonial +minuteman in my main force (even though they can't be upgraded,they fit the theme) instead of musks (the skim and rifle can still be upgraded, so not a big balance issue IMO)
3. 600 resources for an age 3 card isn't a lot. I think 700 would be more "fair". At the very least, maybe having the wagon card send a pil instead of a vil ?
4. I just tried the miner card again, sent twice at age 2, does not count toward pop limit (not complaining :P just making sure)
5. US explorer stats seems really low compared to the normal explorers (how about thinking of making it a powerful normal unit(not serious about this idea, just putting it out there)? (or maybe max 3(or 2) explorer like port)
6. Nice skill for explorer, however, the aura doesn't affect the explorer... was that what was intended?
It puts the US explorer at an disadv in the start of the game (harder to get treasure)
7. I just tried the gatt gun... idk if it's just me, but it seems really weak...it's less effective than other art against infantry!!! (seems even weaker than the default one... might be just me)
8. Not sure if intended, genaders build instantly (I'm not complaining, just pointing it out) 1 art fast card, 2 fast inf card
9. maybe allow US to train ironclad (gunboat)?
PS: I just thought it was weird that the icon isn't the same as the portiat for command post,
EDIT: mounted give less xp than saber (even though mounted cost more, and are built later in game)
EDIT2: Otto hussar replaced by spahi.. but the revolution upgrade upgrades the hussars, maybe change it to upgraded spahi?
Also, thought of a workaround for minuteman upgrade. Have the coloinal model be an upgrade/downgrade for minuteman (so age 2 build coloinal, upgrade to minuteman model...don't know if possible)
ok, let's get started...
1. yes, it is a bug.
2. that is the bonus...
3. ops...
4. 'in the tep'??? please don't short out words... i will look over it.
oh yes, your right. i have moved the ram to the native embassy for the sioux and aztecs.
-------------------
1. not really. people keep forgetting that, my USA is 'The early formed USA..', meaning they are right after the revolution, as you can see Washington was still in charge.
2. yes, i wanted the minuteman to still lose health. although i added him with unlimited train limit he is still a defensive unit, in case of an attack on your base.
they are not front line soldiers...
and they do give train points, just a small amount.
3. the small amount of resources the crates give is made to make players actually use the supply wagons, instead of ignoring them.
don't forget that you are not the only one playing this mod, different people might have different strategies.
4. don't know what's the problem, everything looks fine. i'll test the hell out of it to see.
5. i don't see how he is low compared to oher explorers... i will test him again.
don't forget that he has area damage, which almost doubles his attack.
6. no actually, i don't know why it doesn't affect him, everything looks fine from the coding side.
7. still, it's cheaper than other units. and moves a little faster. i will try a little buff but i can't promise anything.
8. a... i dunno about this, but i will give it a try.
9. they can command them from the HC.
ironclads are really over powered, keeping them limited is a good idea. like miners, which gather coin extremely fast.
same thing with dragoons and hussars, dragoons give less xp, this is from the original game.
will fix the ottoman bug.
haha, the minuteman idea was the first thing i thought about, and it is a good idea, i actually made it at one time, but there are some problems... things are a bit weird.
i will buff the militia a little.[Edited on 10/14/11 @ 08:01 AM]
The aura does work, commanchero's attack went up to 66! Actually ignore this, I misread but yeah it doesn't affect the explorer itself.
Speaking of Commanchero, Range Cavalry Caracole still doesn't work for him. :( (It does however affect the US explorer though)
edit: Cooper can still damage trees but can't hurt your own units anymore.
edit2: Military Promotion has no effect on Cooper. (Doesn't give him extra health nor damage)[Edited on 10/14/11 @ 08:11 AM]
ok, i lost connection in steam, not sure y, anyway look up 'nataxerider' in protoy.
the problem u will notice is that the icons are the same for both the TWC and the original model.
my suggestion includes using the 'spcgreatplainschief' icon cuz it fits very well, however one icon on the training has a ugly border, if u can fix that u will have a perfect unit :DDD |
thank you Kicho, but if i make him not to hurt trees, he might also not hurt guardians anymore...
Omar, i think i'll use that portrait for the War Leader, since i had no original one for him...
guys, i tried and tried but i simply can't make the flag bearers to get into boats!
i do not know why, it is a simple problem but i can't find the cause...
if any of you has any ideas, i'm opened to suggestions...
i want to upload a new version very soon so please tell me if you found any problems![Edited on 10/16/11 @ 05:19 AM]
1. There's a problem with building walls over trade routes. There is a gap (units can pass through) where walls can't be built over (really small).
2. Most people's strategy for age 1 to 2 involves times (optimal time to get optimal # of setters). By changing the food cost up, the timing (number of settlers) will be off. Is there a need to change age cost of age 2? It makes the game start slower. (just age 2, the rest of the ages are fine)
3. Warrior priests can't spawn in fire pit. Have to manually order priests to dance at fire pit, the flag does not work.
4. German general can't be rebuilt/trained, it just dies...Shouldn't it be like a shogun/explorer unit? It costs a shipment and it's easy to kill...
5. Ram can only attack building. Maybe change it to be able to attack other units? (doesn't have to be high damage). Rams are really slow and have no attack against units, a single enemy unit could take out a bunch of rams.
6. the trickle rates buildings for food and wood are low compared to the post office.
7. The new units in the command post are nice, but is it possible to still have ronin with the new units?
8. How are supply wagons an advantage?
They give less resources than another other civ and do not improve at all in age 3.
9. minuteman sent from town center, 150f+150g=6 minute. 300 resources for 6, so 50 resources for 1 minuteman. Yet it costs 75f to train a minuteman from a house. For a unit that loses health and can ONLY be used for defense and has no use in late game, the cost is high...
10. US artillery is weak...I know I said this a lot of times, but 100w+300g gatt VS 100w+400g for a falc... which one would you choose?
Could you make the gatt cheaper (50wood+250g)? Also why is the gatt slower in fire mode? The falc is slower because there are no horses pulling it in fire mode, but the gatt has no horses to begin with, it should have the same speed no matter what mode it's in
11. the US explorer has 700hp, siege of 30 and range attack of 28 at age 5... that is sad -.-
The US explorer can't get treasures in age 1 (no convert/one shot/stun) which is a disadvantage
12. Houses cost 110, but they don't give free units.
Thank you for your time[Edited on 10/19/11 @ 10:59 AM]
1. sorry but i don't really understand, and i ask you to explain it to me again please.
2. yes, i know. the rushing in aoe3 is ridiculous, i for one like to play slower, to enjoy the game, so this was one of the 'anti-rush' measures.
3. a... i don't think that's even possible.
4. well as you said, he costs a shipment... it's cheap... but you are right, i wanted to make the generals and war leader non-killable, but i never done it.
i might do it now.
5. still, once a ram gets to a building, the building is history.
as i can see your telling me to make the game... faster, which i don't really agree upon.
6. that's because you can build 4 banks and bakeries and only 2 post offices... in fact, only one, you need a card for the second.
i thought this was obvious.
7. i didn't remove him... i think...
8. a... free settler + resources?
but i will make them give more resources.
9. yes, but gold is much valuable than food. i will make minuteman cost 70 food.
10. yes, but in moving mode it's faster than falconets.
but, making them faster in firing mode is also a good idea, and i will do it.
11. reason for why i will make him do bonus damage against guardians.
but he doesn't have only 700... you can use techs and cards to increase his HP, just that in this version the card is not working. in the new version it will work.
12. as i said a few times before, the US house also has more HP, a little bit more but still.
more HP + training cheap military units = 110 wood.
and thank you for your requests/reports and i am waiting for more![Edited on 10/19/11 @ 11:26 AM]
Thanks for your response!
1. Sorry, it's kind of hard to explain :P
I believe that in your mod, it is possible to build walls blocking a trade route am I correct? A gate needs to be made in the path of the route to avoid being destroyed by the stage-wagon/train right? The problem I'm having here is that there is a small part of the route you can't build a wall over (To produce this problem, try building a wall over the trade route, there should be one "pole/end point" of the wall that won't be build-able) The problem is that the wall has a gap which enemy units can pass through (not really a big problem though, only 1 unit can pass through at a time)
2. I completely agree, however, in age 1-2 there's no need to prevent a rush IMO. I liked how age 3,4,5 took longer (instead of people just rushing through the ages to get artillery -.-). But in age 1-2 there is no threat from a rush (I might be completely wrong on this)
5. I see your point, but I don't want the game to go faster. My main concern with the rams is that they are COMPLETELY defenseless against ANYTHING. A settler could kill all my rams :P. The mortars can already hit units, why not the rams? (btw, not asking for high damage, maybe 5 hand damage?) I don't want my rams running away from a settler attacking them... I want my rams to be able to attack a settler even if it takes 1000 hits to kill a unit (it's more of a formation problem, rams run away when being attacked, kind of annoying to have to regroup them)
6. Hmm, I double checked, 99.9% sure only 2 bakeries/lumber allowed
7. I'll check again, I have a bad memory
8. Thank you. A minor increase would be enough (right now it's at 600+1settler, maybe 700+1 Pilgrim for the age 3 unlimited card?)
9. Yeah, I realized I forgot to consider that g>f. However, since the minuteman is just used for anti rush I don't think it will be bad to make them cost less (60-65? each minuteman costs 25f+25g. 70f still seems a bit high seeing that the minuteman needs to be cheap to be able to counter a rush)
12. If the minute man cost is lowered, then you are right, 110w is a good deal (before the cost of minute man was very high, so not useful in training units)
Thank you for detailed response. [Edited on 10/19/11 @ 11:50 AM]
