SP B&D (with some RPG inspired elements)

This version has been updated and is fully compatible with patch 1.08.

This three part scenario contains two cinematics and one map for a total of 3 hours of game play. The project is fully supported by an online walk-through web site. The web site contains lots of pictures and a story description so if you want to find out more about the project before you download, check out the site. You can also visit my Flash Bio site which contains preview movies off all my mods. Clear and concise install instructions are included in The Trials zip to insure the game runs smoothly.

Find the walkthrough web site here:

Find the project announcement here:

Here is a link to my personal Bio Flash site, which contains preview movies of this and all my other mods:

The Trials Features:

1. Full difficulty setting support - Native and British are upgraded according to the difficulty setting the player chooses.
2. Buy secrets from prospectors and other locals. Some provide valuable mission information, some just rip you off.
3. Discover and purchase valuable scrolls that provide vital mission data.
4. The British unleash hot air balloon bombing attacks in an effort to drive you to your knees.
5. A local brothel has boomed up and a hooker character tries to lure your military units away from your control.
6. Game features a custom AI made by Felix Hermansson.
7. Custom skins by well-known Age designers including King Jared, Sziggi, Kastor and newcomer Moosefood.
8. New music.
9. Many modded features including new proto, home city units, the German home city, new string table, new triggers, special effects and various new textures.

If you're having problems installing the game you can contact me by email and I will help you through it. If you follow the install notes you won't have any problems but I don't want anyone being prevented from enjoying the game due to install issues. The game has been thoroughly tested to insure trouble-free installation and play.

After playing the game, if you want to play on-line or watch replays you'll have to un-install The Trials' modded components otherwise OOS errors will occur.

If you do play and enjoy the game, please take the time to comment and rate it. Your comments and ratings help us designers a lot.

Hi Gearai;

Okay, the short answer is no. I did manage to update it to patch 1.08 last weekend with the assistance of a moderator. But of course 1.09 is now out and I'm being told it will not be compatible. But I will, I absolutely promise, have 1.09 to a moderator by this weekend so it should be available next week.

It's been hard lately for me since I just got a new job, and guess what, I also just landed a real GAMING JOB!!!!! I have to quit this new job now and make a move to a new province within two weeks, so my time is really awful right now. I feel crappy that the mod needs constant updating but I will do my best to insure people can play this level.

Thanks for your interest and patience. Rock on!!
Gearai ToMyBoY,
Okool, I downloaded your current version2.00, for 1.08, wich is fine thats what I'm running. However, the file size only came out to be 950"kb". Not even a meg, is this right? or did something foul up? You stated that it was pretty large, about 9megs. I recently downloaded an 8.4 meg file, it took about 45 min. This one was a little over 5 min. Did I get the complete file of The Trials or is somthing goofy?

The size of the zip should be about 13.5 Megs in total. I tried clicking on the DL button and the accept window confirmed a file size of 13.5 Megs. I wanted to check since I didn't do the actual upload myself. That would of course be a compressed size.

I'm not sure why the file size was displayed as 956kb for you - that's weird. If that's the downloaded file you actually got, I would expect lots of the mod is missing. If so, delete that version and try to DL it again. The prompt window to accept it should pop up and just make sure it says the file size is around 13 Megs.

Otherwise that version should then work for you as it's patched up to 1.08. If there's not a pressing urge for the new version I can hold off for say another week. But I think eventually it should be updated to the latest version. Try the D/L again to see if it works. If not say so and we'll arrange a file transfer.

Thanks and rock on.
Gearai Nope,
Just tried again as you suggested. This time it was 433kb. The prompt said file size unknown. It's not downloading.

ps. whats involved with a file transfer?

I sent you an email with a link. I've ULed the file (for version 1.08) to one of my servers and you can try that link. I tested it and hopefully it will work for you.

I get the sense that for some reason the entire file isn't being DLed. I have no idea why. But I appreciate your patience and hopefully we can get it working.

All the best and hang in there buddy.
DanOfTheAges Help! For me half of the triggers arent working and the start CINE does not work, it just shows a strangly shaped grassy field with a few units walking around, what can i do to make it work properly?

Playability: 5
Not one single problem! So it's a 5. What else could I add just to make it look more thought, intellectual, brain masterminded? It worked really fine. So it gets a 5!

Balance: 5
Easy going, but a couple of reloads on the way... kept me alive! 'kind of challenging enough to keep the player at his max alert capacity always... which is one of the many purpose of gaming.

Creativity: 5
This is my favorite part, here and always. This story's got 4 interesting sides:
- It's a perfect exemple of what a very good AoE3 scenario could look like. Unlike the original campaign.
- It also shows some creation and the few inventions that AoE3 allow a designer to do.
- Many people, modders, took a very interesting part in the making of this master piece.
- And the result, and what really thrilled me out actually!, are these cinematics among the most amazing ones I ever saw through the game stuff. I'll never forget this floating bridge... okay maybe I will... but not soon.
So, It's almost an AoE3 classic already. But also one of the most inventive I've played so far. There are so many tricks and events... that some of those events... fire without the player noticing. Which is called being more than extremly generous! I saw the harbor door auto trick right before... I won. Maggo Merlino...

Map Design: 5
Nothing unbelievable but this is too me a triggers kind of map. So my way of rating is to go for a 5 anyway, since the scenario by itself deserves a 5. And this is not the most important part in my opinion so I won't take the whole thing down for that. I don't care about " unelievable " overlapping buildings which look like... stupid overlapping buildings.

Story/Instructions: 5
I didn't get lost. And I'm average smart, like anybody else. So it's gonna be a 5.

Additional Comments: 5
Great Additional Comments. They really deserve a 5 as well.
Just kidding. Never know, this could make a 6 rating. We'll see.
A classic. The reference to me as the AoE3 scenario. Strong and fun to play.
A classic already. As Istari's " The Hobbits " is to AoM.

What else? That's an easy one:
tbarak Uhm Jannisary, reconsider your score would you? I mean, I spent a solid month coding a web site that has a complete walk through of the level so I find it hard to believe it deserves a 1 for instructions. Also there are help notes in the DL files that give instructions. Also I dare say the damn thing has a story attached too. The level went form a 5 to a 4.3 so please reconsider.

Sorry to everyone else for not responding. I've since gotten a job in the gaming industry so my time is extremely limited, and modding all say long (say 10 hrs. average daily) professionally doesn't leave a whole lot left for hobby stuff. Plus I gave up trying to support the level after eight patches.

To everyone else, thank you so much for playing and reviewing the level. I miss the community very much but ES burned us modders by not supporting the awful editor so I gave up on their games.

All the best everyone and take care.

Nahtan I have a the same problem as ranjab.

I've been playing the game for about 5 hours and enjoying it. Everything had been going fine, all the triggers and scrolls working. Then it came to the part where I had to destroy the barracks to get the 10,000. I distroyed the barracks and there were no pots of gold, but I walked around a bit, over a mountain, killed a few british ships, and it seemed to miraculously appear in my bank. Then I was told to go back to my TC and await the envoy and wonder builders. So after destroying all the walls around town and most of the buildings the envoy and workers finally make it to the flag (plus a huge army of native indians), then nothing happens. There are no triggers I can't do anything. I can't tribute the money (f6), i can't kill anyone (there's a ceasefire). I'm totally stuck.

Also there is no drunk and no hooker. I found the place were i assume the hooker is supposed to be (the brothel) but nothing...

I installed the game properlly. Took a lot of care follow the instructions exactly. This is hugely dissapointing...
JohnDeere Does it work for TAD?
