Age of Empires 3 is a wonderful game we love and admire, however, to many of us it felt somewhat confining with numerous annoying restrictions and limitations put down by the game developers. Personally, I always wanted something more... unchained. The idea of removing restrictions and unleashing the game's full potential to provide the best Age of Empires 3 experience to date, as well as modernizing the game to answer today's standards is the very foundation upon which the mod has been built.
- Population costs reconsidered:
Every unit now costs as much population as humans there are in a single unit. This allows for much bigger battles with more units, while keeping the need to build houses. Wage a new type of full-scale war!
- Population limit extended:
At some point we've all thought 200 population cap is needlessly limiting and unrealistically small. Age of Empires 3: Unleashed bumps up the limit up to 250, which is the game's hardcoded limit.
- Fortifications improved:
AoE 3 never provided enough freedom in building defenses. Tower limits, weak walls, you name it. Now, forget it, as Age of Empires 3: Unleashed introduces brand new wall upgrades to turn your bland wooden fence into mighty Fort Walls. Build an impregnable fortress of your dreams, with any civilization, even natives! (For the fort walls to face the right direction you have build walls in a clockwise fashion around your first town center)
- Build limits removed:
Ever wanted a huge fleet to dominate the sea? Or an impenetrable line of towers to guard your colonists? Maybe a powerful economy to support a warmonger ally? Game limits have been either completely removed or increased to the point where it's basically unlimited (for game engine reasons). Build huge!
- Player colors reworked:
Vanilla Age of Empires 3 player colors feel way too cartoony and shiny. But worry not - Age of Empires 3: Unleashed replaces the old colors with new, refined for a more realistic feel and features an all time favorite - Black.
- Firearm sounds replaced:
Ever been disappointed by musket or even heavy cannon shooting sounds packing no punch? If so, rejoice, as Age of Empires 3: Unleashed completely replaces vanilla unimpressive sound effects with completely new, realistic ones. Experience a real battle!
- Customized unit textures and models:
AoE 3, to our regret, never provided distinct unit skins for each of the rank upgrades. Age of Empires 3: Unleashed changes this once and for all, by introducing over a dozen of unique, hand made unit textures and models to correspond to your troop's Imperial status. Many lower rank upgrades now feature a unique look as well, explore!
- HD quality flags:
Home city flags have been redone in HD. From Natives to Revolutionaries, represent the Empire of your choice with a quality never witnessed before!
- AI redesigned:
To make the most out of the singleplayer experience Age of Empires 3: Unleashed introduces new Artificial Intelligence able to shatter the standards of computer opponents in gaming industry! Lightweight and optimized, the new AI is capable of building walls to protect itself and launch attacks so devastating, few will be able to survive and tell the tale.
- Sioux walls addition:
Ever wondered why people of the plains couldn't figure out how to build walls? I did. Now it changes, as Age of Empires 3: Unleashed allows Sioux to build proper defenses to fend even the most determined assaults.
- Building rotation enabled!
- Homecity enhancement:
All newly created homecities start right at level 40 with 39 cards available to unlock. Take all the cards!
- Deck size extended:
From now on, Age of Empires 3: Unleashed extends the deck size limit up to 25 (hardcoded vanilla limit) regardless of the homecity level, allowing for a more versatile gameplay. Build an Ultimate deck!
- Town defenses improved:
Vanilla castles, forts and towers could not answer for their name! This changes in Age of Empires 3: Unleashed - defensive structure hitpoints increased by 50% and firerate doubled! Fortifications are now stronger than ever!
- Fort and factory limits are now gone:
Ever been annoyed by being able to send a factory card, but not being able to use it because of some unreasonable arbitrary limit? Tolerate this no more - Age of Empires 3: Unleashed allows you to build as many factories and forts as you are able!
- Revolutions Unleashed:
Revolutionary civilizations now receive a massive boost to the speed they receive shipments at, enabling you to crush Imperialistic old world powers with might and determination never witnessed before!
- Native limits doubled:
Minor native settlements have been altered to provide double the number of warriors they usually do, turning them into most valuable asset on the battlefield. Unleash the native assault!
Numerous both vanilla and mod bugs (like Dutch villager limit) have been fixed providing an even smoother gameplay.
- Intro cinematics disabled for ever faster game startup.
- Bigger experience awards:
Post game experience awards boosted to 5000 from vanilla 500, for faster homecity development and to further reward skillful and determinated gameplay.
- In-game camera zoom increased:
Camera maximum zoom is boosted by a whole 33% from now, to allow for easier supervision of vital points of your colony, as well as to match the Unleashed scale of battles.
Epic battles await!
Installation instructions:
Make sure you're installing the mod on the clean and unmodded and preferably on a freshly installed Age of Empires 3: The Asian Dynasties. If in doubt - delete and reinstall the game.
Download the mod archive and extract its contents into your Age of Empires 3/bin folder, where the agey.exe file is, click overwrite when prompted. To start simply launch agey.exe or, if you're using steam, launch "The Asian Dynasties".
Do make a backup of the game folder in case you'll want to get back to vanilla, because the mod overwrites "The Asian Dynasties" expansion. |

I am trying to set in settlers and explorers the chance to build SPCFortCenter, i have made both in protoy and techtreey, whit this both changes, SPCfortcenter appears in game but FortWalls tech of this mod dissapear wiht no idea frm any walls (proved whith british and japanese. This occur when techtree is changed. Obviously I take care to change codes I need as much.

I looked now more in depth in the AI and it seems the main changes are 0.2 priority for Bias Infantry, Bias Cavalry, Bias Artillery and Bias Native Warrior (down from 0.5) and wall-building with 59 distance and 14 gates. It also does not train Mercenaries or Outlaws. It is a Vanilla AI with some elements of the Draugur AI including upgrading of units and maintaining of Mansabdars.
If anyone wants a challenge, I would encourage others to try newer AI mods that I have created (Horsemaster/Flycatcher), which are more sophisticated. The simple approach of the AI in this mod is good but I don't think it's complete. I wanted it to be more professional.
Good mod! Good work but Draugur AI goes to Felix who created it! |
