Yucatan Inland

Author File Description
Buz This is a modified version of the original Yucatan map.. 4x the size, no sea area and the forests are more dense as would be expected if you were to venture further inland. Unlike the original, on this map the trade route runs from the SW to the NE cutting it's way through the dense forests. Any comments would be appreciated..

This is the more-surprising as this really is an Excellent RMS.
I much prefer this one to the default Yucatan RMS, not only for its increase in area, but in all respects.
We don’t need any bodies of water on this map, and the all-land terrain is just more enjoyable IMO.
The combinations of Cliffs and thick jungle woodland make for some challenging obstacles to impede rapid movement of large forces, to say nothing of being aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Here too, the ‘clusters’ of jungle separated by more open grassy-areas can be taken advantage of if one is attentive enough to do so.
The central trade route is also pleasing in the same manner as one finds on the New England maps; one can count on its always being there, and the contest for control of those key Trade Posts can be very interesting and rewarding.

Buz has done a great job otherwise maintaining the integrity of ES’s lovely layout and even balance of resources and treasures, none of which have been exaggerated on these maps.
I’ve had no issues with ‘bugs’ or anything failing to work or execute properly, load time is good – it’s just an extremely fun field to build, get rich, war and vanquish the enemy on.

As I’ve come now so often to say to Gandalf, superb in concept, superb in execution!
For playability and overall enjoyment, it makes little difference (to me) whether the idea is entirely original & unique, or is an improvement over some earlier design idea… The end product is what gets measured with the rod of Nemesis.

Anyone who enjoys / has enjoyed the default ‘Yucatan’ and whose PC can handle a map area 4x the default size (should be about everyone), will love this one, and I don’t hesitate to recommend it.

Nicely done Buz, with much thanks for sharing it! It’ll get much use here …
