The Great Crusade: Utah Beach

History: All Generals would make a operation to break into France and occupy France--Operation Overlord or D-Day (Day of Days). On the midnight of June 6th 1944, 0100 Hours (1 AM) The 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions parachuted into Normandy. Over 1000 planes flew over this area but were caught by surprise from German 88m and AA Guns. More than 100 planes got shot down but the drop was a success.

The 82nd and 101st's mission was to disable these 105mm guns that are aimmed percisely at Utah Beach for the boys landing at 0600 Hours (6 AM).

0600 Hours, the Germans would believe the Allies would delay again due to low tide. Apparently the Allies were deteremined to end this war against the "Krauts" and go home. The Landings began and DD tanks were not able to enter the beach, men were drowning due to heavy gear, some shot in the head by MG-42 fire. The 101st and 82nd were a bit delayed as they tried to get their gear together from the Gliders that came at 0400~0500 Hours. As the 105mm were disabled, the soldiers at Utah Beach were able to advance a bit more without taking casualities from artillery barrages, but the MG positions and 88m on the beach were still a problem.

The result--3 million soldiers were sent into the Battle of Normandy and came out successfull, losing almost a million troops...(mostly wounded and replacements were assigned)

Gameplay: A cinematic will start at the beginning of the scenario. The you take control of the Third Wave and command them as they take fire from numerous enemies. Take out Costal guns and occupy the beach and secure it by defending the shore from German reinforcements and counterattacks and wait till the 101st (Easy Company as seen on the series Band of Brothers) disable the 105mm and then you advance into inland and destroy the German Strongholds. You got that??

isuiki ok excellent scenario, took me 30min just to take out shore guns and they killed 5,000 men, i haven't finished it yet but i defenentily recomend this and could you give me credit for making pillbox.

Srry, i was playing this again but somehow the left side, walls dont disappear when u clear the beach of forts, I have updated this file and hopefully it removes the walls. Thank you and enjoy

Thanks Xtreme, i hate those pillboxes too but heck, those guys on the real D-Day hate it more than we do ^^

sorry for the 4's, but all the crap on the waterfront made for weird pathing to get around it while trying to take out the big guns, with the boats.

once you figure out you can take out most of the pillboxs with the boats (takes a long time, but i only lost 1200 troops and killed 2000. 1200 with those one shot death troops you get on the german reinforcement portion. It isn't to bad, considering when that one set with the almost dead soldiers, is set up right next to the large cannons and they die before you can move em out of the way.) ---tip--- with that set, which in in the middle of the map.. just let em die, have your gunboats set below them as they die, it keeps the map lit long enough to get acouple shots at the big canons(thats the mobile ones, not the huge fixed canons, though you can also get most of them with your gunboats as well.

All in all a nice senario, though not sure what those 7 or 8 immortal bolivar guys were there for.

I have had this scenario on my machine for at least 6 months and played it at lease 10 times. For me this is the best one of all. Each time I find better ways to win. I find the game quite deep. It takes me at least 3 hours which I like. Sometimes I purposely drag it out to enjoy it more.

Balance: 5
Rather than just a shoot em up game this takes some planning to win. If you don't have a winning strategy you won't go anywhere. (I'm trying not to spoil it for newcomers)

Creativity: 5
Seeing that this game has a lot of different elements you have to learn to use each one to your advantage. Like any war planning is absolutely necessary.

Map Design: 5
As you enter the game more and more of the map opens up exposing different elements to conquer and different strategies to use.

Story/Instructions: 5
The instructions are limited but that's the way a war is played out. You have to work out your own way to win.

Additional Comments:
I find each time I play I find different way to win. The last time which I found hard is to destroy every single enemy element, walls guns ect.
I have a P4 2.66 with 1024RAM, of which I just installed 512 more. Also an ATI Radeon board with 128mg. So now the game runs quite well.
ImperialLord really gd enjoyed playing it . outstanding dtail:D

I found it very hard to play but every thing else was an awesome job!

william240 Hint #1 Move all Mortar Ships on the beaches out of harms way, Group them (Group 1). Group all Mortar Ships in the home port (Group 2).
Attack main guns within range from either side of the beach using salvos. Continue until you destroy EVERYTHING in range. Since you have better range keep well clear of any chance of getting hit.
Hint #2 In between shooting salvos move landing craft to an unused part of the map. This allows you more space to work in. After you kill everything in sight with your mortar ships start attacking with your men. I find the left side preferable. Destroy every thing up to the enemy gun but to not kill the operator as the enemy will destroy the gun. When you have enough power to hold and repair the gun capture it by killing the operator.
Hint #3 Find the 3 balloons and individually group them (Group 3, 4 & 5). This makes them easy to find and select. Set each one over targets for your mortar ships key in on.
