Aztec Units

The following units have been confirmed by Ensemble Studios or guessed to be part of the Aztec army. The images of the units have are from screenshots but may or may not be 100% correct. If you think we have missed something or that something is incorrect on this page please email us. Thanks!

The Aztecs will be unique in The WarChiefs, with an army comprised solely of infantry; with no cavalry whatsoever. The Aztec military is different to the other civilizations in that it is comprised of two tiers in a hierarchy. The weaker units avaiable in the Colonial Age are trained from the War Hut, and the more powerful Aztec knights can be trained from the Nobles Hut in the Fortress Age.

  • Arrow Knight

  • Arrow Knight (5 KB)
  • Ranged Infantry
  • A noble warrior knight, the Arrow Knight is a long-ranged archer unit armed with flaming arrows. This may imply that it has a respectable seige attack, similar to the Seminole Sharktooth bowman.
  • Canoe

  • Canoe (6 KB)
  • Naval Unit
  • This looks like it will be the standard Canoe unit for the Aztecs, most likely intended to be the cheapest boat unit and the mainstay of their navy.
  • Canoe 2

  • Canoe 2 (5 KB)
  • Naval Unit
  • This unknown additional canoe unit is likey to be a more expensive and possibly faster (due to the more refined shape) variant to the standard canoe unit.
  • Canoe 3

  • Canoe 3 (6 KB)
  • Naval Unit
  • This unknown additional canoe unit is likey to be a more expensive and possibly more powerful variant to the standard canoe unit.
  • Coyote Runner

  • Coyote Runner (5 KB)
  • Melee Infantry
  • The Coyote Runner makes up for the Aztec lack of cavalry by being a very fast and mobile infantry unit.
  • Eagle Runner Knight

  • Eagle Knight (4 KB)
  • Infantry
  • The Eagle Runner Knight is armed with javelins and darts. This may mean that the unit will be able to switch between melee and ranged attacks. The Eagle Runner Knight will also be a very fast unit to make up for the Aztec lack of cavalry.
  • Jaguar Prowl Knight

  • Jaguar Prowl Knight (3 KB)
  • Melee Infantry
  • Like the other 'Prowler' native units such as the Iroquois Forest Prowler and the Sioux Tashunke Prowler the Jaguar Prowl Knight will have the special stealth ability. It will be a powerful melee unit.
  • Macehualtin

  • Macehualtin (8 KB)
  • Light Ranged Infantry
  • Available in Age II, the Macehualtin is a ranged light infantry unit armed with a sling, to act like an archer. It will be useful for countering Colonial Age infantry.
  • Puma Spearman

  • Puma Spearman (4 KB)
  • Heavy Infantry
  • Also available in the Colonial Age, the Puma Spearman has a strong siege attack and will also likely be a direct counter to cavalry units.
  • Skull Knight

  • Skull Knight (3 KB)
  • Heavy Infantry
  • The mysterious Skull Knight will only be available through upgrades, shipments or from firepit dances. The specifics of this unit are not yet known, but it is certain that it will be used as a shock-trooper style unit.
  • War Chief

  • Aztec WarChief (4 KB)
  • WarChief
  • The Aztec War Chief unit will also be an foot-infantry unit. It will have a special aura ability that doubles the experience points gained from Aztec military units killing enemy units within his area of effect. The Aztec War Chief also has special upgrades available through Age-up Politicians, one of which grants him a powerful melee attack similar to the Swashbuckler attack available to the British explorer.
  • Warrior Priest

  • Warrior Priest (5 KB)
  • Villager Unit
  • The Warrior Priest is a special unit for the Aztecs that can dance at the firepit and counts as two villagers whilst doing so. The Aztecs will start the game with one Warrior Priest. This means that the Aztecs are well-equipped to make the most of their Firepit early on in the game.
