I'm a moderate who often agrees with Liberals but sympathizes with Conservatives simply because they are less annoying.
I think the reason for this is because the most extreme religious Conservatives usually ignore logic and science while saying that they have more important values, while the most extreme Liberals ignore logic and science while claiming that they base their beliefs on them.
But that is gross generalization, so don't chain me to it.

In truth, none of you are conservatives or liberals. There's no such thing, techincally, since in (in truth), almost every citizen is conservative on some issues and liberal on others.

I'd say in general I lean left a fair bit, but I can see the bad points of both sides.

Was wondering how many people here are conservative and how many are democrats
I hate you.
I absolutely detest it when people associate Conservative with Republican and Democrat with Liberal.
Why? Well, because Republicans are largely neo-conservatives. They uphold all those "values" and that extreme right-wing patriotism, calling all opposition terrorist sympathizers or unpatriotic. But at the same time, they support HUGE budgets - the opposite of fiscal conservatism. Indeed, it's arguable to say that Bush's budget is larger than a socialist budget would be - except Bush is giving the wealthy tax cuts. Conservatism at least makes the economy thrive - what Republicans do makes it fall to pieces.
Democrats are prettymuch the same. They do things similar to the way Republicans do, except with slightly higher taxes and slightly lower military budgets (bombing small countries is cheaper than invading/occupying them). They aren't liberal, they just pick a handful of unimportant issues (with no consistency whatsoever) and differ from the Republicans there.
In general the two parties are very much the same. The Republicans are middle-right, the Democrats prettymuch centrists (except there are some Democrats - such as Zell Miller - which are staunch conservatives). But the left-right spectrum are pretty inaccurate. For some nations they work alright, but on an international level you really have to use more than a one-dimensional scale. Authoritarianism and libertarianism come into play as well as conservatism and liberalism.
But that's another matter. I've ranted plenty, I think. So I'll finish by saying that I'm a staunch conservative.

I think, Doitzel, what you were saying is, Conservative is a term for an economic stand point where Republican is a term for social standpoints?
Well, conservative refers to economic standpoint AND social standpoint, in general. Republicans - also in general - are not conservatives economically but are socially. But they aren't liberal economically because they spend money on different things and give tax breaks and such. Hence why they're "neo-conservatives" and not conservatives.

New Democratic Party (I live in Canada, ok?)
For those who don't know, the NDP is like the liberals except more left-leaning. (and less corrupt)

Well you see, being conservative doesn't mean you're a god-fearing jesus-loving Christian.
It's an economic system.
