This is a revised edition of the City Assault map.
Age is now set to Post Imperial and it is possible
to win the game by destroying key buildings. The walls are now fort walls instead of the palisade walls. |

My friend tells me the file is corrupted. Is it? |

Perhaps, you misunderstood your friend... He/she may have said that YOU are 'corrupted.' ha!ha!
Loaded just fine for me. I've started the game but had to save it as my wife was hinting at divorce! 8-0!!
The battle to start the game was a nice change but I've managed to now work my way up the left side and have destroyed all but one plantation and three farms only losing two heavy cannons in the process.
Suggest that your f(r)iend try downloading it again. well, worth the time! |

Since Mr. Sharpy and I were criticized by "no-life loaded" last time he & I reviewed your intial version, I've set the guidelines next to me here as I type. The guideline says that this is the most subjective portion and is a measure of how much fun I had. Despite my wife hounding me to go to bed last night (WARNING: IF you are UNmarried... stay that way!!!), I had a great deal of fun with this as I like large armies to play and experiment with. I enjoy finding how few units I can lose and still be able to win. THAT is the only reason I did not give it a four. You did put a couple of triggers in...cool! However, you needed to put in, "set player won" so that I could check my stats at the end of the game. As soon as I blew up the last dock, I went immediately to the main screen. 8-( No stats when that happens! (Violins are playing for me in the background, now)
Your opening was FAR more exciting and caught me a little flat footed... very nice! However, it then went back to the slow process of beating down the walls with the heavy cannons... bringing up the culverins to blast the cannons... and then back to the heavy cannons. I first made it up the left side and had eliminated almost all the farms and plantations when I started getting shelled from my own 'home city.' I'd love to able to blame my spouse for rattling the troops. My cannons were lost.
Tonight, I started on the right side. Either I was more careless or you'd reinforced that area around the fort because it took me a few units to get through that area and destroy all of your factories.
With your new victory conditions, I finished the game in one less hour than I did the original which helped keep peace at home. 8-)
Balance: 3
It appeared to still maintain a good balance but I'm wondering that if you set the British to active and gave them an active AI, that it might give them a more assertive outlook on life. If your villagers were working and producing, your buildings might upgrade the units and also create new units should that team get below 200 active members. I realize that you're trying to keep it as simple as possible but those things I mentioned are quite easy... If I can figure it out; YOU can do it too! Since you could not create additional settlers until you fell below the 200 mark, it would add an additional strategy to the blue team... kill off your settlers.
IMO, lag shouldn't be an issue. I have an old video card and live in Vietnam where the electric current is not always, shall we say, "stable"; yet, I have no lag.
Creativity: 4
As I said before, the map design is what gives you a four here. Very carefully set up. You'd probably work well with children as that takes an enormous amount of patience as well. 8-)
Map Design: 5
I am not all that well organized in the traditional sense of the word. I am what is generally what is referred to as a "stacker." When I see such organization, I am very impressed! I've always enjoyed seeing people who could do things well that I could not even begin to do myself.
Story/Instructions: 2
Try to build up a story line. Where is this? When is it? Why are the US troops trying to crush the British?? Like a made-for-TV-movie that's "based" on fact... that doesn't mean it HAS to be completely factual... otherwise, why would you have Georgie W. on the British side? 8-) Maybe it was Washington who was the spy and Benedict Arnold was just a "patsy" set up by British Intelligence... you know, like Oswald. Start your own 'conspiracy theory.'
Additional Comments: It's a game that I'll definitely keep on my computer and play again! Even though I feel I 'know' the map, I still enjoy playing it. Thanks for your efforts.

Well done but there's no trigger at the end to take the player to the post game review. A little bit of thrill and excitement there with the initial battle right off the starting blocks. I wish the game's AI wasn't so weak or you could've managed to keep this up throughout the game. However, that is not YOUR doing, that is something ES and other programmers should be looking at. As a multiplayer game this would be GREAT!!
Balance: 3
I made it through the first time but I had a good idea already of what the set up was like. You added some extra artillery but I could still take it out before they could shoot back at me.
Creativity: 5
I have yet to see others take such meticulous care in placing units, buildings, etc.
Map Design: 5
Nice map! Looks much as a real modern city would be laid out
Story/Instructions: 3
your only weak point of the whole thing but does it really need a story?? can the average mind not figure out from the onset just what's going on and what needs to be done??
Additional Comments:
Your city team has some civilians;why not put the lazy bums to work! 8-)

I enjoyed both versions of your game. They were challenging yet not impossible. As the guidelines say, this is the most important part-- fun! This is more of a game of vanquishing the enemy so I, personally, am glad you did NOT have a major amount of attacks. the one at the onset of the game was enough to get my blood stirring and if I got too far ahead of myself, there were plenty of battles inside the city
Balance: 4
I think you were likely balanced almost to the man though the defenders had more firepower.
Creativity: 5
Happy to see big armies! Love it!!
Map Design: 5
I agree with the others, you map is superb!
Story/Instructions: 3
It's your only weakness to the scenario. What in heck is going on? Why are they fighting?
Additional Comments:
I was happy as a clam at high tide! Thanks!! This is a "keeper"

Thanks. I've taken in all your comments, and I'm adding a story to the next map. Here's a hint, it's titled "Battle of Coast Road Hill." |

A siege map where you can use mass force to cause (or absorb)massive damage. Just my type! I know it's not for everyone, but I like to use artillery or different types in layers and you can certainly do it here. Everything worked, and with the massive scale there was NO lag!
Balance: 4
Defenders had the upper hand in some areas as they should, but some parts just seemed off. (not a helpful comment I know, can't put my finger on it)
Creativity: 5
Different. There was an actual siege on a grand scale and enough forces to make it work rather than the common "here's 10 men, you're going to get attacked ever 5 seconds by 20 calvary, good luck" type of maps. BUT you had to use your forces judiciously. Perhaps that's also the key up there in balance.
Map Design: 4
I love huge maps, this was. There was alot to see, alot to destroy. Big things I like more of are terrain: hills, water. However, you did manage alot of obstacles with the towers are walls.
Story/Instructions: 3
Like someone else said. Who are they, and why are they ticked at each other?
Additional Comments:
Thanks for making this map! Definitely gave me a lot of play time, will give me quite a bit more as I play it over and over.

wheresthebeef has made some of the most ludicrous statements I have ever read in this forum. If you have a relativley recent machine... P4 2.5GHz or better, you will NOT SUFFER lag. Also helps that you don't try to move EVERYBODY at the same time.
If your running an old machine that creates a lot of lag... Don't be a tightwad and expect modern games to play well. Open your wallet and buy a new machine. Plenty of balance too if you know how to manage an army bigger than five at a time. 8-) |

Very playable but a little one sided (For our side)
Balance: 3
I think the human player has a big edge on this...I had a ton of units that I never even brought forward. I was able to shoot many units with cannons and had them barely attack back. It might be good to let the AI create units to fight back with...and you have villies that do nothing...
Creativity: 5
I totally dig the idea. Great idea!
Map Design: 4
Map design was good with excellent layout for the city and defending units. I only wish the AI was more aggressive
Story/Instructions: 3
Not a lot of story. Even just a bit of background as to who's attacking who and why would've been cool..The objectives when reached do not get checked off. And when the final thing gets owned it goes straight to the main menu which is frustrating because it would be cool to see the military totals like units and buildings killed.
Additional Comments:
Overall I had a lot of fun playing this map...well done...with a couple of changes this one could be a 5 all round![Edited on 12/04/06 @ 01:28 PM]
