King of the Valleys KotH Random Map Script
by Felix Hermansson, Tsunami Studios (hoodncloak@hotmail.com)
20 January 2006
This is a King of the Hill style map, based on the 'normal' map of the same name. The players start in valleys separated by impassable mountain ranges. The valleys meet at the center of the map where a trade route and some gold mines are waiting to be claimed. Once a player controls all trading posts along the central trade route, a victory counter is started. If the counter hits 0 before at least two of the trading posts have been destroyed, the player controlling the posts wins the game!
Two or three player games feature additional neutral valleys where more resources and maybe even a treasure or two can be found.
The map cannot be played 'Nomad' style. Instead, selecting 'Nomad' from the game menu will result in a different startup configuration, where players start with additional barracks and two outposts (except for the Russians who get two blockhouses instead).
The map can be played as a team game, even though this does not make sense for a King of the Hill style game. For a team to win, one of its members has to control the trade route. Having several members of the team control all trading posts will not start the counter!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The map can be played in single player mode, but since the standard game AI does not know how to play King of the Hill style games this is pretty pointless. This map is for all-human multiplayer games!
To install the map, copy both files 'King of the Valleys KotH.xml' and 'King of the Valleys KotH.xs' into the game folder '..\My Games\Age of Empires 3\RM' (NOT into '..\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III\RM'!).
You can then play it by checking the 'Custom Map' box on the map selection screen and then selecting it from the pulldown menu.
I would appreciate any honest feedback, good or bad. Please tell me what you liked, what you disliked, and especially, tell me why. If you have any ideas on how to improve it, all the better.
I would appreciate it even more if you did not modify this script without contacting me first.
Please send any comments or questions by e-mail to hoodncloak@hotmail.com. Oh, and add 'Age of Empires' to the subject and use proper language, otherwise your message will probably be deleted by the spam filter.
Have fun!
Felix
UPDATE, March 11 2006:
As patch 1.05 has become available I have updated this script to include a tooltip description for the map selection screen as well as a proper description for the game loading screen.

Hey, hows it hangen. Opened the file up, Point(you may want to specify the folder, though it seems obvious)RM folder. Well won't be able to take this baby on line till verison makes new accounts in my area. But to load different players and look, its nice and seems to be built for speed. I like the over all design and especialy the grass terrain, is that a mix terrain, it's a good blend. The player map distrabution is good, yet dosen't seem to like low odd numbs, three being the one I tried. Anyways going to hold on to "King of Valleys", to play at a later time.
Felix wanted to talk with you about something could you drop me a line. thanks sziggi@hotmail.com[Edited on 02/16/06 @ 04:16 PM]

I think the game folder is specified clear enough in the readme file - I can't get more specific since the absolute path depends on your installation.
Could you be a little more specific about the RMS "not liking low odd numbers"? What's wrong there?
As for a little talk, you can reach me at hoodncloak@hotmail.com.[Edited on 02/17/06 @ 01:39 PM]

hey, missed the path. ok the generate new, in the editor with three players for me created a map sectioned for six. I shouldn't even bring it up, every thing else seem real good.
Thanks for the address, want you to look at something (not that you don't have your own projects) but this thing came out real neat and I know you can improve upon it. Send in an hour or so. bye. |

You really should spend more time with the readme file... ;-)
"Two or three player games feature additional neutral valleys where more resources and maybe even a treasure or two can be found."
All maps feature at least four valleys. For three players there are neutral ones between the player valleys. Two players are randomly positioned in four valleys. |
